HP by default, but in truth he seems more deeply incompetent than bad. Mostly I don’t blame him, I blame the people who put him in his position. I also fail to get it on all level:

You have broad nationalist party ranging from the right to left, meaning their voters would in an independent Scotland would range from being members of Labour to the Scottish version of UKIP. Then the party decides to elect an incompetent minister of South Asian origin as leader, because the other candidate is seen as too religious. The first thing the guy do is taking a picture of him and his family praying in the Scottish First Minister official house, next he begin to talk about Scotland being too white, the he talk about not liking nationalism, then he decides to establish his own foreign policy, where he meet with Erdogan. At last he decides to send money and offered to send supplies fro the Scottish NHS to Gaza.

Was no one aware the guy is an idiot? And if someone was aware of it, why didn’t they tell the rest of the party and the media?

I get the impression that quite a few of his troubles were inherited and are of the "this party has been in power too long" type, but even given that he doesn't seem very good at politics.

I don't get the impression that he's a particularly dislikable person, though. So no vote from me.

I don't think he's a bad person, but he's clearly a terrible politician.

Like others have said, I don’t have anything against him personally. It’s just that he’s the avatar through which the SNP has received at least part of its much-deserved comeuppance.

From what I understand, Derek Mackay was the likely successor to Sturgeon until his well-documented issues came to light. Kate Forbes would have been if not for having certain contentious views on social issues. Yousaf was lucky to become leader, and in addition was probably helped by having a high-profile during Covid.

Honestly, I suspect that most of us would not like him in real life, the vibe he give off is that of someone of some privilege who have gone to the right schools, but is deeply incompetent and arrogant and who get a job through his connections and who most of us would just interact with as peons below him.

I have two views on it. One is the views of this as a political act, which it’s 100% was. When you just won over the other candidate based on her being too religious, it’s pretty stupid move to make, which alienate the people who supported her. That was the main point.

My other personal view is that prayers is deeply personal act between God and you, and using it to show your virtuousness, lessen and dirty the act and make it more a act of trying to raise yourself above your fellow man. This view is unimportant in a political context, but it do color my view of Humza as a person.

Or it can show general acceptance for Muslims. I am a Muslim American. I was often bullied as a child. Knowing a "head of state" can be Muslim is cool

He showed that by winning the leadership contest, not through showing picture of what should have been a private act.
