Is it possible for a vice president to break a tie while he or she is acting as president? I think this should actually be possible, because the person is still in office as vice president and has not succeeded to the office of president.

All I could find on that matter is from the wiki's list of Senate presiding officers, and it shows that when GHWB and Cheney were Acting Presidents for a brief periods, they were removed from that role.

One could speculate it would violate the rule of separation of powers: acting as President while remaining a part of the legislative branch, though we can see the procedure varying from state to state. For example when Earl Ray Tomblin became WV Acting Governor following Manchin's departure, he remained as Senate President, but excused himself from participating in legislative business. Dick Codey, on the other hand, continued to work as NJ Senate President while serving as Acting Governor.

I wouldn't call that wiki page authoritative as it provides no citations to support the viewpoint that the Vice President can't simultaneously perform as "Acting President of the United States" and as "President of the Senate".

Because of the Tyler Precedent, we've never had an extended period in which a Vice President was Acting President and thus no instances in which a person might have a reason to perform both tasks.
