We shouldn't place limits on medical malpractice awards, but they shouldn't be paid by the doctors.
Most cap laws hurt victims of truly serious medical injuries causing permanent disability or death, while doing nothing about the real problem of frivolous, meritless claims that are brought only because a settlement costs less than a lawsuit for the defendant.
We should fund healthcare with a universal, single-payer system. People who are hurt by negligent medical care should be compensated by the state. Doctors who repeatedly commit malpractice should lose their license.
