Just to get the sense of the forum.

I would prefer that the moderator not be an elected officer of candidate, but there is no constitutional requirement.

This looks like a vendetta by some of those on the losing side in the election.
Gustaf has been a member of a party for a long time and he never got partisan with his powers.
Get off his back already.

Perhaps it should remain as part of the office of president, the moderator powers that is?

I'd say we should do one of 3 things

1.Do as Ben suggested in the post above.

2.Make the moderator a cabinent position

or 3. make the duties of moderator come with one of the cabinent positions like secretary of forum affairs, Sec. of State, or Attorny General

I have said long ago that the moderator should not be a candidate or elected official; I'm not targetting Gustaf specifically...although he's obviously the only example we have.

I would be fine with making it a cabinet office.

I'm perfectly aware Gustaf wouldn't abuse his powers as moderator.  But regardless, I think it would be a good idea and a good precedent to have a separation of moderator and president.

I agree with this.  Though, I don't believe the president should have moderater powers, so take out #1.

Gustaf is a great guy.  He wouldn't abuse his powers, I think most people will agree.  But....no matter what, him being president as well as forum moderater does seem like a conflict of interests.  He should really consider this, and so should his supporters.

The Democrats and Republicans who lost this election have every right to question any act Gustaf takes as moderater from this point on.

Gustaf and I get along quite well, and I like him a great deal, and on some issues we agree. But, I do not believe that it is an... excellent idea for him to be the Moderator and President. I suggest that we find a person to replace him that is involved but holds no political position. Just a thought... sorry Gustaf

I trust Gustaf not to go mad with his power. Yeah, sure, let him stay as moderator.

I do trust Gustaf, but I think he should set a precedent and step down as Moderator. He can appoint his own replacement, just as I chose him originally. Allow the President to choose the Moderator, but make it a requirement that it not be the President himself, or any other elected official.

I agree Nym, I've said something similar to those lines.

Thanks to all of those who have faith in my moral standing. Smiley

The poll seems to show an even split...I accepted being moderator on the premise that it would not prohibit me from running for office. However, if there's a popular call for me stepping down, I will. However, I think you need to realize that not anyone can be moderato and the position also isn't actually all that powerful, in the executive sense. So, if you come up with a good replacement, I will gladly surrender the position, it's not all games and fun you know... Tongue
