The Republican Party is still seen as the party of law enforcement, the United States Armed Forces, ICE agents, border patrol agents, etc.

The Democratic Party has been seen as the party of anti-police/law enforcement activists, anti-military activists, etc.

Social media makes it worse with the commentary.

What does the Democratic Party need to do to dispel that image, if they are going to make inroads with police officers, U.S. armed service members, etc.?

The Democrats have to try to convince Republicans that being pro-military and pro-police does not necessarily mean being HARDCORE, 300 percent in the corner of the military and police EVERY single time, on every issue and in every context.

The problem seems to be that if you aren't on call 24 / 7 / 365 to get naked, get on your knees and fellate the military and police at their beck and call, conservatives accuse you of being anti-police. When they say jump, conservatives say "how high sir"?

Think about a marriage and apply the same standards. If your wife doesn't get naked and blow you every time you ask her, in ANY situation or context whatsoever, does mean she is "anti-you"?

The Democrats 'anti police' image only exists among political nerds. The rest of the country is just simply voting its pocketbook...provided the voters are even bothered to be motivated enough.

Voting for the PATRIOT Act and Iraq didn't help them one bit, so I suspect that people who see the Democrats as "anti-military" or "anti-police" see anyone who's pro-choice, supports LGBT rights, or supports healthcare legislation as "anti-military" and "anti-police".

Among the partisans sure , but among indepedents, many really only started to think that from 2015 on.

Democrats shouldn't be pro-military.

Since the Dems have had to deal with the issue of being "anti military" since at least McGOvern this seems a weird statemenr.

Support high defense spending
Side with police much more, and push tough-on-crime policies

Dem voters might be anti-military, but Dem politicians aren't.  Almost every one of them has some corner of the defense industry in their district and they must protect those jobs.  (not to mention Obama/drones or Hillary/"we came, we saw, he died <cackle cackle cackle>")

Recall Obama, who respected the military, the intelligence services, and law enforcement, and was cautious about what they could do.

Articulate that we are not against the guns and badges, just that we think that they are very important and need to do a very good job. Talk about how military spending means more opportunities and how We need the police force that is right for us.

Follow in Obama's footsteps and deport historic amounts of people while murdering citizens of third world countries with continuous drone strikes.

Do a better job of shouting down and marginalizing their few crazy members. A Biden party would likely be much more effective at this.

Why should they? A large portion of the Democratic base is against police brutality and military intervention, and I doubt the party can win over a substantial amount of voters who would otherwise vote Republican by advancing a pro-police/pro-military image.

Hope for a miracle in which the American public finally begins to recognize nuance and stop believing right wing characterizations and narratives.

https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/bush-nra-resignation/

After Waco and Oklahoma City, HW Bush resigned from the NRA because he felt that they had become "anti-police".
