Its not like Teton county went for Kerry because all the rural American ranchers/farmers wanted him. Its because Teton county is a very liberal area of the state that has ski resorts and wealthy non-natives.
who cares? Their votes are just as valid as rural farmers and ranchers.
Anyway neither Cheney or Edwards lost their home counties, Kerry lost Edwards' home county and Bush lost Cheney's home county.
Of course their votes are valid. That's not my point. My point is you can't use counties out west like that as an indicator of some big shift in the demographics of the western states.
