Liberal-Libertarianism. Social conservatism makes me feel rather uncomfortable.

It should!  The end result of social conservatism, carried to its logical extreme, puts you in the gas chambers or with your head lopped off.  Nazi Germany and Saudi Arabia exemplify the socially conservative State.

The end result of leftist policies taken to their logical extremes is communism, where you starve due to pathetic food production and other goods are also in shortage due to massive inefficiency. The old USSR and North Korea exemplify this kind of state.

My point is not against leftism. My point is that it's obvious that extremes are bad - that's why they're called extremes. The more moderate versions of various ideologies such as social conservatism or economic leftism are tolerable, though certainly disagreeable to some depending on their viewpoints, and it's quite silly to compare them to their ultra-extreme versions.

I'd say socially conservative/economic leftist but I'm not that socially conservative. In fact on some issues, I wouldn't say I was particularly conservative at all. I think moderate liberal populist just about sums me up. I'm a shade more economically left than I am socially right

You're not liberal. you're a populist.

Indeed, I am not.  I'm a moderate liberal populist as opposed to a moderate populist or a moderate populist conservative

Social conservatism scares me more than economic conservatism, so option 1.

Option 1

I don't care what happens with economics, as long as people and politicians are socially liberal. That doesn't mean overly-permissive, just liberal.

So, in other words, you're what's wrong with the Democrat Party.

No, I'm saying that social issues are my primary concern. A politician could be conservative on economic stuff and still have my support, as long as he wasn't a bible-thumper (social conservative).

Social issues are my big concern. The only reason why I'm not a solid democratc is because of their insistence on being leftist social engineerS(anti-smoking campaigns, refusal to legalize drugs, keeping the drinking age high, political correctness, affirmative action) who refuse to increase individual libertries. Well that and their support of third world trash nations.

You have a lot of the same concerns I do with regards to the Democratic party, but I'm still a member because most of where I stand fits with them.  The PCness, Affirmative Action, the "Black Panther Wing" of Al Sharpton/John Street/Cynthia McKinney and sometimes their support of corporate policies as opposed to the worker can anger me at times, but this is only a few Democrats.  True, I am not in the coal miner/steel worker wing of the party such as my grandfather and what my dad was because I'm far more socially liberal, but that is a wing of the party we can not ignore.

LOL at the libertarian Republican complaining about a Democrat for supporting libertarians.
