Italian Twitter comments about how we do food wrong.

---

The Italians have a point -- but they repeat it over, and over, and over, ... It's like they've never heard of anything other than hamburger (which they peculiarly hate).

Sure they are. No one from south Louisiana eats hamburger every day of their lives.

**

They're right about not breaking up spaghetti before tossing it into the water, or mixing chicken with anything containing tomato sauce. My mom (but not my grandmother -- strange) did those things, and I still felt the wrongness of it. (Yes, I ate it. I was not an ungrateful little wretch. Well, I am, but not for turning my nose up at dinner).

But their injunctions in that Twitter thread about "Italians never cook with butter!", "Lasagne is always made with bechamel!" and  "Fettuccine Alfredo is American invention" is just ignorant.

It's the only thing they have.  Italy is an old country filled with old people that live in old houses and marvel over their old paintings and old sculptures and old recipes... while their government jolts from one incompetent regime to another, the garbage piles up in the streets, and villages that have been around for 2000 years crumble and disappear into dust.

And yet they didn't really know democracy until my living grandma was taking home ec. in high school to learn how to keep a proper kitchen.

Not to mention that everybody else in Europe pretty much hates them and finds them loud, belligerent, and more than a little uncivilized.

But go ahead Italy.. criticize our convenience food items that are still wildly popular in your own country while you wear jeans and drive cars and post from your computer.. hell maybe even fly over here to tell us our food sucks... and we'll just remind that all of those things were INVENTED IN AMERICA.

(And yes, while I should not have been... I was a bit offended by the posts by people in the OP's link)

That's the rub: Italy is a very rich country, but it doesn't look it. It has a higher economic output than South Korea.

I've known Italians (real ones, from Italy, not just from the Northeast or New Orleans) in my past life who could eat nothing that wasn't prepared in an Italian restaurant or sourced directly from Italy. Anything else made them sick afterwards. I thought that was so peculiar -- even the French  didn't have tummies that delicate.
