kamala is not black! do you people have eyes?

It doesn't seem like any dimension beyond "libertarian right" and "authoritarian left" was taken into account. What about state capitalists, agrarians, or primitivists?
State capitalist is authoritarian left, BTW. I do agree on the others though.

Hell no.

Marxism is stat-ism.

Any Marxist should not buy or enjoy commerce, as they are totalitarians.

So... You're a "Marxist" and support Stacey Evans and Beto O'Rourke?

I would think even Jealous and Sanders would be too right wing for anyone who is really a Marxist.

Am I a Marxist? Hell no. You are correct in saying that those people would be too moderate for a Marxist. Sanders is a left-populist social democrat, Jealous is a social democrat with an emphasis on civil rights, Evans is a standard New Deal liberal, and O'Rourke is a New Democrat ffs.

It's just a comically stupid to say. Saying that all Marxists are totalitarians is just factually wrong, and displays immense ignorance of Marxist analysis. To give an example, it was Marx who said that "Democracy is the road to communism". The other point about the fact that Marxists shouldn't use modern-day devices is an ad hominem cliche that just needs to die. It would be like saying to an 11th-century peasant, "you shouldn't use farm tools if you bring up the issues with feudalism because those farm tools were developed under feudalism". Also it dismisses the fact that technology such as the modern-day computer would have not existed without government research in the 40s and 50s, the Space Race of the 60s, and government subsidies after that, which, according to the same people, is "socialism".

You really shouldn't assume that the world is so black-and-white; just because I find a criticism of Marxism to be painfully stupid, doesn't mean I'm a Marxist. Even my nickname clarifies this.

Though I agree, if you want to kill [Facebook & Google], getting the govt involved in regulating them will do the job quicker than bad PR.  Of course in 10 years you'll just be bitching about whatever replaces them.

authoritarians wants the govt to control everything

Trump did not ask supporters to "beat up peace protesters." Quit listening to the media.

And "kill the families of terrorists" was one of the best ideas I have ever heard in my life.

Speaking of fascists - FDR interned Japanese Americans.

Geez, couldn't they have found a respectable nurse or a teacher to run in this district? Not somebody with the Twitter handle ironstache..

Democratic poster who doesn't support the plight of the working class? Disgraceful.

Also, what a sh*t point to criticize a candidate on. Instead of going after policy, you go after his twitter handle...? Really quite arbitrary, but I've seen worse on Atlas.

This is so exaggerated.  The only reason GA-6 was close this last election was because of Trump.  If the GOP had nominated anyone else, he/she would have carried that district by a wide margin, and probably most of the other R-leaning suburban enclaves that swung/trended D.

That said, the GOP has had a big problem with suburban voters since the 90s due to the rise of religious and social conservatives in the party.

If you subscribe to the idea that Trump has accelerated trends already in-progress (of which there is a good argument for), then there is no guarantee GA-6 will go back to where it was before. History is rife with examples of presidents pushing certain regions into the arms of the other party. Usually they just act as a catalyst for existing trends.

The Democrats spent Record amounts of money on Georgia 6 and had a very good candidate and the GOP had a very mediocre candidate and spent about 1/2 as much and still won. Trump was an awful switch for Texas, Virginia, Georgia and Colorado. The fact that Texas and Georgia did not become competitive under these ideal conditions means that they will be Solid Red States for the foreseeable future.

Dems spent about $2 mil more than the GOP in GA-6 when add all the numbers up, not 1/2.

"Trump was a bad fit" is becoming an increasingly leaned on excuse for Republicans on this forum,  it fits their narrative virtually anywhere they want it to.

Well its kind true. Look how well Trump did in the midwest and north east, and look how abysmal he did in the south. 6/11 of the swings against him were in the south (Arizona, Utah, Texas, Georgia, Maryland, and Virginia), while out of the 5 that weren't in the south, 4 were democratic states. I understand demographics and all, but going from an 18 to 9 point victory in Texas is down to many factors.

Calling not only Arizona, but freaking Utah southern states.

There's a fair amount of truth there as far as Arizona is concerned. A lot of the initial settlers were ex-Confederates and it was subject to preclearance under the VRA before Section 5 was struck down.

Well, by this definition Idaho used to be a somewhat Southern territory.

Yeah but unlike Idaho, Arizona is actually geographically southern.

You could technically classify "the South" as any former slave state under the Missouri Compromise, making Arizona a Southern state. Though that would make Hawaii a Southern state too...eh...

Democrats are basically Republicans that are pro gay marriage and pro abortion...but the political discourse hasn't been moved to the far right? Ok.
What is it with ProgressiveCanadian being so triggered lately?

I've noticed that the anti-Bernie crowd has really begun to ramp up their sh*tposting. It pisses me off quite a bit too...the difference being, of course, the fact that I try to keep my post quality (on serious posts) high.

What does being angry with anti-Bernie people have to do with arguing that a Trotskyist would be moderate in Europe?

Nothing. It's really quite obvious that a Trot would be on the far-left in Europe. My comment was in response to ProgCan allegedly being "triggered" (a dumb word to be used as a substitute for "agitated").

Or maybe if we stop spending money on fictional things trying to determine how much polar ice caps melting cause bears to have diarrhea, maybe we could spend it on better forecasting tool to see storms like Maria and give people more time to prepare?

Human garbage.

It's a shame how so many Americans - or people in general, really - don't understand a thing about the scientific process, the very same process which has brought billions of people out of poverty.

Even with all the misuses of the word "socialism" by right-wingers and people with socialist avatars who are still pretty standard Democrats, this might be up there for worst use of the term:
If you're talking about heatcharger and the like, they're doing it sarcastically. The Americans with actual socialist avatars, afaik, aren't necessarily "pretty standard Democrats".

Kamala Harris has done more for the justice of million Californians, the most racially diverse state in the country, then Bernie Sanders has done for his sh**tty rural white state. Yet it's the old mediocre white guy that is being shoved down the base throat, when Kamala is a inspiration to many WOC who feel the pain of living in Trump America. Explain to me how the low accomplished senator gets a fair shot at the presidency and not the hard-working GA.

First point sounds like a Russian, devoid of article use in grammar.

Second point is more important. I had a strong intuition that this guy is a troll, but this pretty much confirms it with a high degree of certainty. Would someone from their own state really call it a "sh*tty rural white state"? If he hates, or even dislikes, his state, then why would he personally identify by being a resident of said state?

I feel as if this is a parody of the staunch Clintonite faction of the Democratic party. The best part is when they actually agree with him, like they did with that Eharding sock.

TBH, I think businesses should be allowed to deny service to anybody for any reason, but my namesake lost that battle over 50 years ago so whatever. Tongue

Anyone should be able to deny service to anyone for any reason is a perfectly understandable position.  Boycotts and the free market would kill any discrimination.  And, for the record, I support this business's right to kick out Trump supporters as well:

Actually, this post fits very well in this thread. Though it did make me laugh quite a bit.

Your signature is a complete travesty to common sense and intelligence. It's blatantly false and (lazily) tries to twist statistics to fit your demented viewpoints.

BYE! FELICIA!

(Reaction to my signature)

Don't get the "bye felicia" part...but this belongs in the Kalwejt Megathread for Atlas Hilarity too.

To be honest, I would call my sig (even though it's ironic, see the Luxemburg reference), and my political position as a whole, to be of the "left-socdem" variant. Normal social democrats are mostly inoffensive.

Wasn't the Black Book of Communism disproven to have artificially made up his numbers? Don't get me wrong, I hate Stalin and would waterboard him if given the chance.

Anyway, the explanation here is that communism is formed through the collective will of the people, and so every German death in WWII was a result of this will, while every death from Stalin's purges was ordered by the will of one man, and is thus not communism...hence "Holodomor was state capitalism".

Do I seriously agree with this? Not really.

I have another jfern post, but this one is much worse:

Well, Iran was certainly not a pro-democracy regime before 1979. They had even fewer freedoms then.
This couldn't be further from the truth. Yeah, the Shah was definitely, 100% a dictator. But he did not place such locks on personal and cultural freedoms that the current regime does.

Blinded partisan remarks that ignore the truth because they don't fit in his little fantasyland bubble

Democrats love their sexual predators.

Just ask all the Dems who still love folks like Bill Clinton, John Conyers, and Al Franken.

Let's not forget the super Dem state of California:
https://www.politico.com/story/2017/12/24/sexual-harassment-allegations-california-democrats-306231

And those are just a small handful of examples.

Stop pretending you're a member of some special FF party when you guys are just as bad as the other guys.

Another shameless Dem hack who can't accept the truth appears!

At least we can all get a good laugh from triggered Dems on here who pretend their party is some magical group of folks who would never sexually harass or assault anyone, defend someone who does, or even vote for said person, despite plenty of examples proving otherwise.

Seriously though, this type of behavior is unacceptable no matter which party someone is affiliated with (and as I mentioned before, it's been proven that yes, both sides actually do it).

Y'all need to get off your high horse and take off your blinders.

Seems like you're the triggered one (from the bolded quote), lmao.

Also, I wouldn't exactly describe myself as a hack...lord knows how much sh!t I give my party...

But your argument is the epitome of the "radical centrism trap", in the sense that it's built off of the idea that "both sides do it, both sides are equally bad", etc. Which is not a valid assumption to make.

It seems like you need to provide some actual examples to support your argument.

Anthony Weiner? Did Anthony Weiner get explicit support from the DNC in his bids for Congress after his sexual misconduct came out? I'm not actually sure...but the burden of evidence is on you, after all.

Bill Clinton? For what it's worth, I don't support the Clintons, and detest the New Democrat/Third Way electoral strategy of abandoning working-class issues to position yourself as moderate to the American electorate for short-term victory. So yes, Clinton most likely did some disgusting things, and definitely should not run for office in the future. Not exactly the "gotcha there!" point that you seem to think it is.

^ I was headed to the funny posts gallery, but this works too.

One rule to live by is when a person starts ranting about their opponents busing voters in, you know they are full of sh**t and probably just can't stand being wrong / losing.

Honestly this may seem irrational but Wulfric annoys me almost as much as King Lear does. He seems left leaning given his strong opposition to the GOP agenda yet he insists on endorsing almost as many Republicans as Democrats, and yet is triggered by the word "socialism". If a thread on [insert Red state Dem party] pops up, he'll laugh at the party, but I haven't seen him trash say a non-Atlas Blue state GOP party. It's like he's scared of being called liberal and/or is just a troll who happens to provide well-informed analysis. I also don't like how strongly worded his stances are on abortion, but that's probably cause I'm far left on the issue, and he's by far not the only pro-lifer on this forum.

Wulfric is actually not a bad guy personality-wise, but the way I see it, his "enlightened radical centrism" is just an Atlas meme at this point, and should be treated as such.

Two completely unrelated posts

I don't see any reason he'd fall below 90%. He'd be able to sell himself effectively and doesn't seem to have any skeletons in his closet like the "superpredators" quote that hurt Clinton. Wouldn't drive turnout, though.
Super predators may have kept a couple people home in some key states but she basically did what any white Democrat would do with black voters. The 59% turnout of AA nationally was better than all non-Obama Democrats.

Cuban has no ties to the black community, and I don't see why he'd win the Democratic nomination anyway. I could see quite a few black men voting Trump + low propensity black Democrats turnout dropping even further with another 4 years of Obama in the rear view which could drive it down to 83-85ish.

He is the owner of the Dallas Mavericks, a NBA team, which employs majority black players. I don't know if that is enough for Cuban to win.

Bad optics but the ruling of the presiding officer was exactly correct.  Doesn't matter if it's the state house, a school board meeting, or whatever, her actions were not procedurally proper.

Agreed.
Context: A self-identifying liberal Democrat looking at a relatively composed woman revealing the corporate corruption of her state legislature, who's first thought is "welp, she didn't follow procedure! /shrug"

We don't need low-information voters with barely a high school education being forced to vote in an election for which they know next to nothing.

According to a study released recently (and here's the article), support for authoritarian rule is strongest among that demographic.

So, I'm fine with them not voting.
