I'd have to disagree about that. Certainly he was one of the most left wing (no matter how the term is defined), but a lot about his politics (and approach to it) came from the Liberalism of his family. Which is one reason why he was such a poor Leader; he lacked a proper understanding of the way the Party worked (and what its voters wanted) and was never able to find a way to overcome that.

Reasons why I like Al no. 95: even which words he chooses to capitalize speak volumes.

Aw. RIP. I read somewhere last year how he was hoping he'd live to see his team (Plymouth Argyle) play First Division (now "Premier League") - they're one of the teams with the longest league history to have never been there. (Also one of the largest British cities to have never had a first division team.)

One of the last living people to have personally known George Orwell well, too I suppose.
