some new "science day" as a replacement for Columbus Day?
My vote goes for the anniversary of the worldwide elimination of smallpox. It's easily one man's top scientific acheivements. Extremely underappreciated.

No, I hate the idea of it as a holiday because I don't want a tragic day celebrated by a bunch of advertising bull$hit and barbecues.
I agree with you though Memorial Day is a far worse offender. Americans don't understand solemn holidays.
