My own favorite was 1948 (1968 as second).

Looks like they were all good choices: 1896, 1960, 1912, and 1968. And of course the winner, 1860.

I'm a fan of 1896 myself, mostly due to the various demographics that switched places, if only just for a short while, and the dynamic of the pro-industry McKinley v. the Agrarian Bryan. However, as mentioned, 1968 takes the cake. Its combinations of blasts from the past and foreshadowing, combined of course with all the other crazy elements including two deaths, upsets, two entertaining races for nominations, a third party, etc.. make it the best, as everyone said.
