My heart is with Iceland, but realistically I'm rooting for England and Russia.

More than any particular team, though, I'm rooting for these matchups to somehow take place:

Germany vs. Russia
Iran vs. Saudi Arabia
Poland vs. Germany
Serbia vs. Croatia

The earliest clash between them could happen in the semifinals, but it's very unlikely.

Technically, this could happen in the round of 16, but both teams are extremely likely to be knocked out during the group phase.

That match-up could happen in the quarterfinals, and it's even a realistic scenario.

This clash could happen in the semifinals at the earliest, but it's very unlikely.

Thus, your wish for a clash between Germany and Poland is most likely to come to fulfillment.  Smile

France.

I have sympathy for Belgium and Iceland and, in a lesser extent, Germany

Poland, Morocco and Iceland. Out of teams that have a serious chance to win Brazil.

^This. I'm quite pleased with them holding Argentina to a tie.

With this being the group stage and the US unfortunately not qualifying, there are a few teams I'm supporting, depending on how far they get and who they face. I'm also liking England, Mexico, and South Korea (the latter on the advice of a friend).

From the start, and no offense to those from those countries, but I'm quite opposed to teams like Germany and Brazil. I have nothing against them personally, but I'm not supporting the behemoth teams that always win or almost win.

1. Germany (above all else due to a plurality of my ancestry)

2. Sweden (second biggest component of my ancestry and appreciate the underdog story)

3. Iceland (purely for the underdog story)
