How random.  Assuming the request for an apology was some sort of stunt, what did she hope to accomplish?

Good question.  The incident just seems strange.

I just read the NY Times email, which misleadingly said she "reached out" to Anita Hill... very very strange.

Thomas has shown in his writings that he's still very upset about this and hasn't gotten over it. My take on this was that it didn't originate with Ginny but that after 19 years she's desperate for anything that might make her husband get over it and stop being so miserable and angry, so she lost her judgment and tried this.

Does it lead you to believe that the allegations weren't true or there could have been a legitimate misunderstanding between Thomas and Hill..........?

Not really. I mostly avoid the Hill/Thomas thing. I've seen people in divorces get worked up into a total rage against the other person over stuff that was actually their fault or which was a misunderstanding. People can convince themselves that things that didn't happen, did, if it fits their story about themselves. I can believe that Thomas believes he is right because believing in himself and his righteousness was what he had to do to get to where he is now, whether or not that's the truth.

i watched very closely and even recorded the Thomas confirmations hearings (still have the vcr tapes), and the thing that struck me was that the witnesses who knew both Thomas and Hill were unanimously on the side of Thomas.  They said that Hill was overjoyed that Thomas had be nominated and beamed while lavishing praise on Thomas.

On a side note, there was a very funny witness, a black man with blue eyes, who was simply full of himself and his handsomeness.  Midway through his testimony it became clear he was there to talk more about himself than the subject matter at hand, which prompted one Dem Senator to remark, “you think you’re pretty charming, don’t you?”  and the witness replied, “Well, my wife tells me that I am.”

I'm sure there's a grain of truth to Hill's story and Thomas' version.  Do you think if Thomas were white they might have rejected him or did being black make it worse?

since they were both black, it probably didn't matter.  Though a black person once told be that Thomas having a white wife hurt his standing in the black community.

WTF? Huh Calling Hill out of the blue 19 years later?!?

What was her reasoning? Why now??

I have no reason to assume this, but baring an explanation of why she chose this time to do it....how to put this? Such bizzare erratic behavior begs the question whether she was, um, "in full control of her facilties" at the time.
