Heresy is considerably over the top, but Francis is sowing doctrinal confusion and seems unfazed by this. On paper his pronouncements (Amoris in particular) hew closely to established moral teaching, but there is an almost constant stream of alternative interpretations offered by his close associates that goes uncorrected. This papacy is also notable for the manner with which the current Pope and his associates treat their opponents; the stunning broadside against American Catholics published in La Civilta Cattolica exemplifies the latter, while as for the former one only need consider the Pope's implication that priests who prefer traditional clerical attire are somehow effeminate. It's confusing, particularly because while the message from the top is muddled the manner in which they deal with dissenters is anything but.
