Gotta love the ex-post-facto tinkering.

I really don't care one way or the other about whether it's the president or the committee who appoints these individuals. Such a small issue should not be make-or-break, so I don't know why it would be presented as such at the end of deliberations with a re-draft. Indicating a preference for these changes earlier would have been a lot friendlier. Oh well.

Oh, I stand corrected. While I oppose the president's continued malfeasance, I also oppose both his proposal and the bill as it currently stands, so I have no choice but to abstain when we do vote.

At this point, my desire would be to get to a point where debate could be resumed, ditch the commission and just hand it to the NSC to do.

I'm torn on changing my vote. If I did, I'd vote nay. The problem is, I think my nay vote would be more out of spite than out of what I think is best... and I can't do that.

You wouldn't need to resume debate to do that.

You mean by just letting the bill fail and have it the NSC take it up through normal channels? I prefer a slightly more pro-active approach though, to ensure at least some of the sponsor's intent does actually have a chance at occuring.
