Note: neither simple majority nor filibuster proof would be determined by this hypothetical race.

A Republican, veteran incumbent from a Red-leaning state. Definitively a conservative, but is remaining one of the last sane voices within the GOP, you can work with across the lines on specific issues (thus, he's being labeled by his own party extremist as "RINO"). One of the Senate leading experts on foreign issues (yes, certainly modeled on Dick Lugar)

His Democratic challenger, an ostentatious moderate, who is representing a very rare, real opportunity to pick up a seat. However, beside winning a seat, he's useless, kicking his own party every occasion, just to prove how independent-minded, moderate he is. No real substance (yes, certainly our Evan friend).

So, here's question for a Democrats and other progressive posters? Whom would you support in this race?

I'd choose Dick Lugar over Evan Bayh, so I'd go with the incumbent.

3rd party probably if there was one. Else if I could I'd run as the 3rd option.

OK, I'll be realistic. I like sen. richard lugar because he's as liberal as I can have from a republican haha... And I don't like evan because it seems like if he hasn't got principles... but in this case, I'd probably vote democrat. 1 senate seat could decide the balance of power, and the most conservative democrat usually votes more with democrats than the most liberal republican.
If the race was really competitive, I'd vote Bayh. If it wasn't, I'd probably vote Lugar only to make Bayh rmeember he's an idiot.
