As a general rule:

AG = Aspiring Governor
That makes sense. The office is a good springboard for Governor.

In Virginia, I think that Attorney General Herring could suceed McAuliffe in the Governor's Mansion, but he will probably have a long slog against the Republican nominee.

AG Kamala Harris probably has a good chance at becoming Governor of California

AG Pam Bondi could become Governor of Florida, but the Republicans do have a fairly deep bench here, given that there are so many Republican congressmen and mayors who might want to run in a gubernatorial election.

AG Lisa Madigan might become Governor of Illinois, especially if Rauner (R) defeats Gov. Quinn, which would make this race a prime Democratic target in 2018.

AG Catherine Cortez Masto is probably going to run for Governor after Sandoval leaves office in Nevada.

AG Kathleen Kane is probably a good candidate for Governor of Pennsylvania in the future, but her chance might be a while from now, especially if a Democrat defeats Gov. Corbett this year and remains in office for two terms.

Of course, AG's Abbott (R-TX), Coakley (D-MA), and Beau Biden (D-DE) will probably end up as Governors very soon.

It's highly conceivable that Jack Conway (D-KY) could end up in the governor's throne. Not a guarantee, but certainly possible.

I think that Grimes could be a challenger in 2015 if she's beaten by McConnell this year.

That is certainly possible, Bandit3.

I'm questioning Kane's chances, considering her problems as of late with this sting operation.

Kamala Harris could be Hillary's AG if she wins in 2016. It looks all but guaranteed Conway is gonna to run for Governor now that Luallen is out.

Hillary could lose in 2016, so all this Kamala Harris for U.S. AG talk will fade.

Josh Mandel is such a little twerp that I can't imagine him winning anything else except a twerp contest.
You are talking about a combat veteran of the USMC

He's also talking about a man who falsely accused his opponent of being a wife-beater.  I could choose a more appropriate word for Mandel than twerp, but I'm saving my death points for the worthier individuals.

A few of mine, in no particular order:

KY - Adam Edelen (D)
PA - Tom Wolf (D)
RI - Angel Taveras (D)
DE - Beau Biden (D) (low hanging fruit)
WA - Dow Constantine (D) (once Inslee is done)
OR - Pete DeFazio (D) (once Kitzhaber is done, dunno if there's anyone more in tune with Oregon who has any sense of what the succession plan there is)
CA - Gavin Newsom (D)
LA - David Vitter (R)
NC - Roy Cooper (D)
FL - Charlie Crist (D) and one day Adam Putnam (R)
VA - Mark Herring (D)
IL - Adam Kinzinger...? (R) (he doesn't exactly fit in with his colleagues in the House)
IN - Todd Young
GA - Jason Carter (D)
UT - Josh Romney (R)
NV - Ross Miller (D)
NM - Hector Balderas (D) (doubt Gary King tries again after the thumping he will receive this fall)
NJ - Steven Fulop (D)
CO - Morgan Carroll (D) (maybe? Depends on how Hick's second term goes, I guess. I could see John Suthers/some House member taking this. Demographics will help determine how this race evolves by 2018)
