Back to the Future.  Bought the trilogy on bluray.  Awesome.  The special features are even better than the dvd release I have from like 8 years ago.

The story boards for an alternate ending...(Marty driving the delorian into a ground blast A?/H?-Bomb test to get the required Jiggawattage) are great.

Assassination of a High School President.  A little easier to follow than Brick (the dialogue I mean), but I think the plot to Brick was tighter, better.  Still not bad.  Bruce Willis entertained.

MacGruber.  Sucked.  Big time.  I'm amazed to say this, but the only thing that didn't suck (at least as hard as the rest of the film) was Val Kilmer as c**nths.  There's actually a few scenes that are funny and awesome, but few and very far between.

Sword in the Stone. One of my favorite from Disney.

The Expendables (Decent Popcorn action flick...Stallone looks like crap).

The Secret of Kells (pretty darn good, even if its a cartoon).

The lady wanted to see Little Fockers...so I obliged.  Not as bad as I expected.  DeNiro has good comedic chops and saved it from being an utter disaster.

The Room.

As entertaining and as crappy as ever.

If you haven't seen it, get your friends together and have a group viewing.

Your Highness.

Enjoyable, despite not advancing the art of film one bit.

Ok...so far Ten Commandments is pretty damn awesome.

It's pretty good.  I imagine the damn awesome part is due to Your Highness being the most current definition of "movie" in your subconscious.

I liked Your Highness.  I realize as a film...its well...not going to win critical praise...but I enjoyed it.

I'm a big fan of epics.  I admit, this is like the second one ive seen and purchased (the other being the passion)...of the more religious nature...(i usually stick to the historical epics: Gladiator...Kingdom of Heaven...Braveheart)...but for the most part that was due to my bias against older movies more so than the overtly religious nature.  My collection and tastes tend to skew heavily towards movies from the 1980s and later.

What do you think of Ben Hur?

When I saw it when I was 12 I thought it was the most amazing thing ever. I should probably watch it again.

Your Highness by the way was directed by a very talented director who has made some excellent indie dramas. He did Pineapple Express kind of as a joke, so I'm hoping he hasn't decided to just do only stupid comedies from hereon, even though Pineapple Express and Your Highness each have made more than all his previous movies combined.

I enjoyed it.  I think my main problems with the older movies are 1) the special effects require more suspension of disbelief...and 2)  they're a little more campy/more sanitized/general audience...occasionally too family friendly...to the point they seem unrealistic...if that makes sense.

But Ben Hur and Ten Commandments...wow...very enjoyable.

Ok...so far Ten Commandments is pretty damn awesome.

it gets a little boring after the Exodus, but before that point is it truly a work of art.

My two favorite scene are:

1) Dathan (Edward G Robinson) revealing to Rameses (Yul Brynner)
who killed the master builder Baka (Vincent Price)

“I will bargain with you.
If what you say pleases me,
I will give you your price,
all of it.
If not,
I will give you the point of this blade through your lying throat.”

Edward G Robinson and Yul Brynner simply ran away with that movie; they were, by far, the most interesting and entertaining characters, IMO.

2) Nefretiri’s (Anne Baxter) fake seduction of Rameses

“Remember, my sweet,
that you must be wife
to the next Pharaoh.
You are going to be mine,
all mine,
like my dog or my horse or my falcon.
Only I will love you more
and trust you less.“

Just goes to show a movie script doesn’t have to contain bad language in order to be bad arse.

There are many veiled references in the movie to some really bad sh**te going on (he doesnt want me for my water...being beautiful is a curse for our women etc)...the late 50s were filled with that stuff...hence the "need" for the MPAA/ratings system.

Highly recommend the Jimmy Stewart Legal Drama...Anatomy of a Murder...great story...and definitely pushing the edge of what was acceptable in mainstream film.

Chief Wiggum and Edward G. Robinson sound very similar...I dont think that was Azaria's plan from the start but it certainly has led to some great simpsons episodes.

Yes, yes, that's what I meant.

Now don't get me wrong.  12 Angry Men is a great movie...but I'm looking to watch a legal drama...give me Anatomy of a Murder or Witness for the Prosecution any day of the week over 12AM.

I do like legal dramas though. I don't remember the name of the one with Hepburn and Tracy but it was pretty good.

That I don't remember/know of.  Again, I've only recently gotten into older films (for the reason i mentioned earlier).  I mean, I've seen many of the classics...and what not, but beyond that...just starting to get into...in depth.

Name sounds familar.  Haven't seen though.

I think my favorite old movie...is the Maltese Falcon...closely followed by Strangelove...the legal dramas I previously mentioned are in my top 10.
