The race really had a "2004-in-reverse" feel to me all the way through.
To me, it seemed eerily similar to the 2006 governor's race in my home state of Michigan.

I loved John Kerry and still idolize him to this day, and I think lots of Democrats do too.  At least much moreso than Republicans and Romney.

I agree with you. I still idolize him myself.

As for the topic, I think I had a topic shortly before Election Day about how it was going to be 2004-repeat with the parties switched.

There are so many similarities with 2004, it's amazing. The incumbent building up a huge margin in the convention season, the challenger making a comeback after a good debate performance but still falling short of winning, in the end turnout making all the difference. The way Romney has been defined by the Obama campaign is also basically the same as how Bush and Rove defined Kerry.

It was also similar to 1936, but without the huge landslide.

Obama is at 50.7% now. Same as Bush '04. lol.

He may continue to go up a bit more though.

How is it similar?

Yeah Obama painted Romney as a wealthy out of touch businessman just like Granholm's campaign painted Dick DeVFos as an out of touch wealthy businessman in 06'. I read an article on the net in comparing the 2006 Michigan Governors Race to the 2012 Presidential Race.

Rick Snyder(the current Michigan Governor) defined himself as a nerd on his first ad in the 2010 Republican Primary for Governor. Snyder defined himself early but Romney let the Obama Campaign define him in attack ads in swing states as a corporate raider. This hurt Romney in the Upper Midwest Region on election day.

Who would be the Republican version of JFK, though?
Rubio?

A historic "first", and rather charismatic.

He's Catholic; family members (past or present) allegedly involved in smuggling...(booze, wildlife).
