Racism doesn't mean that every white person is certain to do better than black people, and indeed because it's only one part of someone's experience, there are plenty of black people that start out life with better opportunities than some white people. However, racism-even when it's just subconscious-means black people often don't start out with the same opportunities in life as white people and throughout their lives are still at a disadvantage. It's not impossible for anyone to overcome, but life isn't as fair as it should be either. This likely contributes to the fact that although around 10% of white children live in poverty in the US, around 30% of black children do.
