I agree with basically all of these points. I might also add fighting like hell to resist voter suppression, but that'll only work so far if Trump is President again.

Agreed. If Trump gets back into power, I worry if any future election cycle will truly be "free and fair" like in the past.

I believe elections will remain free and fair for the most part even if Trump wins since they're run by the states, not the federal government,

Also I doubt Trump would try to rig elections for Republicans who aren't himself, so I imagine if he wants to stay in power he'll save his energy for the actual presidential election.

which is equally bad!

How does the US prepare for a 2028 election where Trump wants to run again? Do people just continue to move the goalposts for him or accept that?

If he somehow runs and wins in 2028 and Dems control a branch of Congress, do they certify his win?

These are things we've never really had to worry about before Trump came on the scene, but now they are real possibilities. So, it's clear Trump has greatly harmed our democracy already.

If Trump tries to run again in 2028 I can't imagine him being allowed on the ballot.

What if he mounts a write in campaign that the RNC supports? Or what if he sues to be on the ballot and SCOTUS rules in his favor?

SCOTUS is unlikely to rule in his favor outside of Alito and Thomas (or any replacements like them).

And he'd get absolutely obliterated in an election as a write-in.

Why? People thought he had no chance after losing in 2020 and Jan 6, but he now has more control over the Republican Party than ever.

Who's to say he won't be able to get away with even more if given the chance?

He won't have the luxury of running against a deeply unpopular Biden, and he'll be the one blamed for everything that goes wrong in the country.

I love your confidence in the belief that another Trump term won't further erode democracy, but the last decade of politics has proven you wrong.

I never said it wouldn't erode democracy further. It definitely will in some ways, such as the politicization of the federal bureaucracy or the weaponization of government agencies. But something like the federal takeover of election administration, or Trump finding a way to stay in power past 2029, isn't plausible.

I envision a second Trump term as a lot like Netanyahu's current stint, though hopefully without an October 7.

Anyone who has been here over 10 years, or who was brought/sent here as a minor and has been here for over 5 years should get amnesty, period.

And anyone who has been here for 5/10 years or less should be deported . No ifs and buts

Both from a funding and a logistical perspective, how? That's an entirely unrealistic fantasy.

Of course he’s not guilty. There’s no crime.

And you’re relying on Michael fuc king Cohen. Cohen himself is reason for reasonable doubt.

He should be acquitted, but won’t be.

Better be a hung jury, then. Relying on Cohen…. lol please.

I guess I understand the Chicago angle, but man I just find leaving Illinois out difficult.  When I imagine the most quintessentially Midwestern area in the whole region - for better and for worse! - I imagine the Quad Cities in its entirety across both Iowa and Illinois.

Chicago is obviously Midwestern. The only reason my map shows Illinois just slightly less Midwestern than IA/MN/WI is southern Illinois.

I'd say Trump, largely due to the fact the ultra-Conservative Jewish population in the County is growing.

Trump is favored here, though he almost certainly won't win it by as much as Zeldin did.

Gillibrand has a decent shot at holding it though (like Schumer did in 2022), though Lawler's definitely winning it at the house level.

I would actually argue a place like Rockland County is one of Trump's best opportunities to match Zeldin's 2022 numbers. Ultra-Conservative Jewish communities were the one place where Zeldin slightly ran behind Trump in 2022, so given that's what's primarily powering Republican strength here, Trump could achieve close to Zeldin 2022 numbers.

Lawsuit and accompanying secret recording allege (well, show) that Derek Armstead and Linden city employees discussed hiring black and Haitian employees in the school system over Jews: https://www.nj.com/politics/2024/05/nj-mayor-opposed-hiring-jews-warned-of-guys-in-big-hats-and-curls-in-secretly-recorded-meeting-suit-charges.html

“I don’t care what they are,” Armstead said on the recording, in response to the school board president’s call for Black or Haitian candidates. “If they’re from the general area here, that’s what we’re trying to build here. That’s what has to happen in order to keep our community being taken over by guys with big hats and curls and I’m just keeping it real. And if people don’t understand that, you know, we are really trying to save our community here.”

He also complained of one prospective maintenance worker who failed to show up for a training session and then left Linden, selling his home to someone in the Jewish community.

“Moved out of town,” Armstead said. “He sold his house to the guys with the big hats and the curls too. So, you know, everybody’s undermining the progress we’re trying to make here in town.”

Disgusting pure anti-semitism, and completely disqualifying. A throwback to the Crown Heights riots rhetoric, though thankfully, remarks like this aren't viewed with the same indifference now by many.

North Korea is optimized to survive autarky whereas Israel is completely integrated into international markets.

Russia was completely integrated into international markets. A lot of coal, wood and natural gas came from there.

Also, Israel now has the Gazan side of the southern border; how long is it going to take Hamas to dig a decent tunnel - without it being detected?

Rafah's population is avoiding quick mass starvation because of outside aid in the first place. If Israel cut the water supply off, then dehydration would come within a few days.

They really won't have to do much.

Americans will suddenly remember how much they hate Trump and have buyer's remorse over letting him return to power. Just like 2018, but on steroids.

It'll be a bloodbath for the GOP, but a pyrrhic victory for Democrats at best since Trump would still be President and probably already did irreparable harm in his first two years.

What tanks Trump's popularity in his second term?

Literally just being Trump all over the news again.

Nope. That's become normalized. He's already saying unhinged things every day on the campaign trail. People just accept it and a lot of people like it.

Democrats can't just run on "not being Trump"
