I see that Victoria is completely green in the Pop vs. Soda site, and that's exactly my experience.  I've called it "pop" all my life and I know of absolutely no one from there who doesn't.  If you call it "soda", people will probably look at you slightly weird (and probably assume you're American), and if you call it "coke", nobody is going to have a clue that you're not talking about Coca-Cola.

Going to some of the places that call it "coke" might be a bit confusing...

"Gimme a Coke."
"What kind?"
"What?  I want a Coke."
"Yeah, what kind of coke?"
"Uh..."
(etc.)

Nah it usually goes:
"What would you like to drink?"
"A Coke"
"What kind?"
"Sprite"
You get used to it i guess.

No, the guy asking for a Coke is me, who had no idea whatsoever that a "Coke" was the term for a generic soft drink.

But no reason at all can explain why Midwesterners/Canadians call soft drinks 'pop.' That word grates the ear, and doth mockes the meat it feasts upon.

Because that word is awesome.  It's a one-syllable word that ends in a hard consonant that perfectly fits a crisp, carbonated beverage.  "Soda" is a wussy word that sounds like what one might call it after it's gone completely flat.
