I really don't see what was "dangerous" about what Joe Biden said here.

Let's see: the Republican party is frequently labeled as racist and feudal and the sitting President is a black Democrat. Comments like this one stoke racial fears or a class war. Take your pick.

Yes, Biden sincerely believes that Romney wants to enslave the "99%" and wasn't joking. Tell yourself whatever you need to hear to justify your pulling the lever for the Republican...

Oh, well, as long as we can say "We didn't really mean it!" I guess you'll excuse a lot of those Republican comments.

Didn't think so.

Danville is on the VA/NC border. I'm sure there were plenty of North Carolinians in the audience, and it's been a well-known strategy that excess resources and virtually all volunteers from adjacent states (TN, GA, SC, VA) be directed to help out with the NC campaign via phone banking, canvassing, etc.

Considering that Virginia is a swing state that Obama really needs to win the election,  I doubt there will be many Virginians wasting their time trying to win a state that leans even more Republican.  They will focus on Virginia.

It's pretty clear that Biden was supposed to say Virginia.

My perspective is that if you're on the border of two swing states, and there's one swing state that is in your column by a bit and one that is out of your column by a bit, you would encourage people in the audience to help with the latter. Also, keep in mind that the area surrounding Danville is essentially a crap shoot for Democrats and not that heavily populated. Their efforts would be better given to North Carolina than Virginia at this point.

There's 10+ callbanks going on each week in Chattanooga, and the calls are not going out to TN or GA. I've received multiple emails urging me to make calls to NC. When I login to barackobama.com and select my state, followed by the 'Make Calls' feature, I'm directed to making calls to NC.

You could be right and it could simply be a gaffe, but I've seen a lot of postering from OFA to push virtually all Southern Democrats to help with the NC effort. Even if it is a gaffe, however, I don't consider it to be "incorrect".

Biden knows what he's talking about as best exemplified by his argument that voters in Virginia will deliver North Carolina. Thank God Paul Ryan is debating Joe Biden and not Hillary Clinton.

Another classic Biden gaffe.  The party that tried to keep blacks in chains accusing the party that unchained them of trying to put Americans "back in chains."

Yeah, talk about ingrates with this "what have you done for me lately" attitude.  I mean it was only a 150 years ago.

This racist statement by Biden makes any Romney gaffe seem positively enlightening by comparison.

Yeah, but for over 100 years after the Civil War, Democrats oppressed blacks by fighting against bans on lynching, racial segregation, and protecting blacks against the KKK.  Republicans consistently fought for freedom for blacks and continue to do so by encouraging work to make them independent of government assistance.

Last I checked it was Republicans who voted in the Civil Rights act.

What exactly have Democrats ever done for African Americans?

It wasn't meant to be racial; just the standard thoughtless demagoguery.

Sad to say, Biden is losing it.  He's 70 years old and looks it.  His hair plugs are gone.
I think in the debates, Paul Ryan will look far better, and more attractive to the average voter.

Good OLD Joe Biden won't be the asset to swing voters any more.  Its too late to replace him on the ticket, but they really should replace him.  Perhaps after wards if he win re-election, he'll step down in 2 years for Hillary.

I believe he's referring to the many Republicans in Congress who voted for the Civil Rights Act. You know, those dreaded "RINO" moderates.

Barry Goldwater and other conservatives like the Southern Democrats didn't vote for it, of course.

Todays Dem and GOP parties are not the parties they were 45 years ago. The Dixie-crats who opposed the CRA moved to the GOP, that was the whole point of the "Southern Strategy." As for the Rockefeller Republicans who supported it, well they are what is called RINOs today.

Ah the gaffe machine strikes again....

But to people saying this is a racist comment, it just isn't. Just insensitive and inept. Again classic Biden.

Romney's Republican Party is not the Republican Party of four years ago, let alone forty years ago. Romney wants a colorless society, not one with racial divisions and promises of Santa Clause benefits for certain races over others.
