I find the notion that this will fix our economic woes rather ridiculous, but oh well, I'll take the $600. It's not like our national debt would go down if the government kept it.

Be sure you spend it, like Shurb wants.

How does this make him a good president? Just further proof of his bad economic policy, if you ask me.

Like I said before, these funds should have been used to restructure ARMs that were triggering the bubble bust in the economy rather than just giving it out to many who don't need it.  And since a more stable housing market would provide a return on investment due to higher property taxes and equity, it would have been a positive investment in the country and for the government's pocket.  All I'd do with a "stimulus check" is place it in my saving account.

Sadly, this is bi-partisanship at its best.  Dems wanted even more, but were settling for this.

Oh yeah, I don't doubt that democrats wanted more. I'd prefer a veto from him though. I don't think it's a good idea, regardless of which party wanted it more.

Neither do I (see above).

Wouldn't this just end up increasing inflation?

I'd prefer the money be spent on development of alternative fuels, given that the price of oil is what got us into this mess in the first place. Nonetheless, I'm not about to turn down a redistribution check from the government.

Unfortunately, most Americans will probably just use this to pay off the considerable debt they've collected under this economy. And even if we did spend on it consumer crap, most of the money would end up China's pocket.

I should spend it all on strippers. That would give new meaning to the term "stimulus package".

worst idea ever...
and yes I am saying this as a person who is simply angry about having to pay this off in taxes in the future because the current generation is too short sighted to plan beyond 2-3 years (also I missed the cut-off for amount earned in a year by about $150).

Lyndon LaRouche said something about this and economic stimulus attempts in general.  He said that people who support this stimulus package should see a sex consultant.  That was one of his better quotes.

$600 doesn't change my mind about George W Bush being the worst President in United States history.

Word. I should symbolize this by not spending a penny of it on a stripper with a bush.

Kinda related question. Did anyone else find it a bit superfluous we were sent a letter from the government that we would be sent a $600 check in the future?

My check finally arrived, and like I said ... it went straight into my bank account.  All it's going to do is stimulate a little more interest for me.

We haven't gotten ours yet but I think I have actually convinced my parents to spend it on something cool.

I got mine - it was only half of what I was expecting. Apparently you get your liability or $600, whichever is less. Tongue

I was debating last night when I went to bed as to if I should invest my $600 into my online businesses (covering service fees, tech support, etc), just to see if how far I can stretch out the cash before it disappears ... assuming that my online businesses don't return a profit fast enough.  Could be a fun little tracking thread on here.  HAHAHA
