Apparently Jones still doesn’t understand that he is representing AL, not MA and that Trump has a < 60% approval rate in his home state.

Or he realizes that he's pretty much done for next year, and would rather stand by his values than sell out and lose anyway. It's not like Gardner doesn't represent CO as if it were WY anyway.

I don't care what state someone lives in, Trump's analogy was stupid and insane.

Also, if he wants any chance of winnng or even a reasonable performance, he's gonna need like 99% of African American Americans with massive turnout.

I mean basically his entire base is comprised of African-American voters, so it makes sense for him to speak out on these issues. And it's not like he's actually going to win anyway so what's the point of trying to appeal to AL whites who were never going to be on his side in the first place?

Well,
I knew Senator Doug Jones was stupid but I didn't know he is this stupid:
https://www.politico.com/news/2019/10/23/doug-jones-democrat-alabama-trump-055034

And this comes on the hells of a Poll in neighboring Mississippi that shows Voters strong opposed to impeaching Trump.

Doug is as dumb as Heidi Heitkamp was with Kavanaugh in 2018.

Doug doesn't expect to win reelection people. He expects to lose, because this is Alabama, and then get nominated for a a position in a future (20202/24) dem cabinet. Holding true to dem values and initiatives satisfies that goal. Who care about moderation if the  voters it earns are just a drop in an empty bucket.

Or maybe what would be dumb is to vote or act against their value, knowing full well that pretending to be a moderate heroe won't change a thing and they will be defeated anyway.

Doug would not benefit at all from running away from his beliefs. Ask Donnelly and McCaskill and those other "not crazy Democrats".

If you know you're losing, it's much, much better to go down fighting for what you believe in than to roll over in the hope that "reasonable moderate swing voters" will respect it. And Heitkamp's loss was pretty respectable all things considered. Voters DO NOT respect cowardice.

Doug Jones is a man of character and backbone, who conducts his politics by what he believes in. I hope he gets appointed to the Justice Department or Supreme Court. He's way too good for Alabama, I wish he could be traded for some blue state senator.

If/when he loses, he'd be a great pick for Attorney General under a Democratic Administration.

Then he should give up and send his $ millions to other D candidates

Most Alabamians are people of faith and have strong christian values, it's a shame they are ''represented'' by this man.

Except it's not like he ran as a moderate heroe and got elected telling Alabamians that he would vote like a conservative democrat. He ran as a fairly mainstream liberal on most respects and the people of Alabama decided he would be the one representing them or decided not to vote and to let him win the race. I don't see what's wrong with that.

Most Alabamians are virulent racists that support a criminal and a credibly accused rapist. There is nothing Christian about their values.

Jones regularly attends services at Canterbury United Methodist Church, outside Birmingham, where he has also taught Sunday School. In 1999, he successfully prosecuted two Klansmen involved in the 1963 bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church. By all accounts, he is a devout man of faith with strong Christian values that drive how he thinks and acts.

Unless that's not what you meant? If not, why don't you spell it out for us?

Also strange that speaking out against misuse of the word "lynching", of all things, is what elicited this response from our ami.

Come on man.

The people of Alabama elected Doug Jones, fortunately you have no say in how they voted in that election.

As I recall you have previously implied the seat belongs to the GOP. Unfortunately for you, right now it's occupied by a man with backbone and honor.

Yeah, if only they could be represented by a pedophile instead.

There is nothing wrong with the use of the word lynching to defend himself.

If a sincere reply, you're absolutely right, they are better represented by a dude who paid off pornstars, never goes to church and speaks ill about anyone not 100% in line with him. Someone who bragged, he could assault women and who could cheat the hell out of business partners. Or who emphasizes violence against political opponents. If anything, this exposes what hypocrites these self-proclaimed devoted Christians are. Especially those who repeat the hateful chants on rallies and are completely ignorant about Mr. Trump's disgusting behavior.
