Moderate-severe. They probably interrupt a couple speeches but will quickly get drowned out.

Coverage will make it seem much worse than it is.

It won't be 1968.
HHH was selected by party leaders, while McCarthy and Robert Kennedy won most primaries that year.
Biden won all dem primaries

An alive Kennedy could probabky had ended up being rhe nominee.

Option 5, moderate to severe. What frustrates me is that they're not protesting Trump too.

Probably still won't be as large or as chaotic as the protests at the 1968 Democratic National Convention:

Democrats bracing for massive protests at party’s August convention

It helps that the Israel-Gaza War will not be the salient issue for most young people, who place abortion and the economy center-stage.

“Biden, Harris, you can’t hide, we charge you with genocide!”

I wish they could come up with some new chants.  Protests are seriously the most uncreative things on the planet and it's annoying how proud of themselves they are for this stuff.  It's the same vibe as a fourteen year old who comes up to you and proudly says "hey I just had this wild idea, what if our whole world is a simulation and nothing is real?  Did I blow your mind?"

That's just computer nerds re-inventing Christianity. Smiley They do that a lot, with everything.

Also worth pointing out the USA is a MUCH older country than it was in 1968.

EDIT:

People under 30, 1968: 52.6% of the population

People under 30, 2023: 36.4% of the population

Agreed. It won't be 1968, no matter how much some want it to be. Tensions would probably be higher if there was a dedicated pro-Palestinian candidate who ran against Biden. So, honestly, the 2016 convention might look worse in that sense when the Sanders supporters really made their presence known.

There probably will still be protests, though how big they are may depend on how relevant the Gaza issue is or isn't by August. And, honestly, who really knows? I hope it'll be mostly settled and out of the news; but when we're dealing with both Hamas and Netanyahu having to come to an agreement, erring on the side of pessisim is warranted.

They are going to be severe, disruptive, and make the Democratic Party look divided. There will be hecklers during Biden's acceptance speech.

People realize this is going to be a disaster, right? This convention is not going to end well and we're just sleepwalking into it.
