It depends.

For instance, the main branch of my county library keeps this schedule:

Mon - Thurs 8:30 - 8
Fri - Sat 8:30- 5:30
Sunday 2 - 5

On the other hand the two smallest branches are only open 33 hours a week, but they keep different schedules:

Monday 11 - 7
Tues/Thur 10 - 6
Wednesday 12 - 6
Saturday 10 - 1

Tues/Thurs 10 - 7
Mon/Wed 11 - 5
Saturday 9 - 12

In the US, we often like to run things at the local level. Libraries are a good example of this. As a result, libraries will keep different hours in different places. Here in Memphis, we just cut back our library hours to save money. Open just 10-5 now. Sad

I know many right-wingers who are quite outraged and offended at the existence of public libraries, Alberto.

Local library open form 9 to 5...study rooms at the university library are open to students 24/7, but books may only be taken out of circulation between 7 and 6.

My local "library" is open 1pm - 5pm, Tuesday to Friday and 10am-5pm Saturday, I think.  I don't really care to know because they basically only have romance novels and all the patrons are either insane homeless men from the shelter down the street or screaming kids from the elementary school next door.

They've been cutting back hours.  They try to do local author events and other community events and workshops to draw interest... but the public library is unfortunately an institution whose days are numbered.

E-libraries are probably the future.. where local governments still allocate money to purchase the rights to e-books and other digital media.  While local author events will be held instead at other community centers.

From my experience generally 10 AM Monday through Saturday (with several libraries closed on Saturdays) and Sundays starting from 1 PM

it all depends on funding, really.

ive always said you can tell whether or not your town values learning by the state of its library.   it isnt just the poor towns that have bad libraries.  i can think of a few relatively affluent towns around here that have crappy libraries and crappy hours and crappy library employees.

i think that my town of lexington mass has the best public library *for a town its size* in the state...probably one of the best in the country.  it is outstanding.

The Memphis library is a funny looking building. When you drive by at night, the inside is lit up and you can see countless books on 4 floors. It's kind of a cool view.
