I would have ardently supported the Cristero rebels.  While on its face contradictory, I could even see myself taking up arms in this situation.

Why does one have to support anyone? It was a bloody messy conflict at the end of nearly 20 years of civil war. Exactly the sort of the thing you want to avoid bein inolved in.
