Ah, he was both the predecessor and successor of Edwin Edwards. I wasn't far off. I always thought it was a funny quote (although quite serious in terms of the prospect of having a former Klan leader as Governor). Incidentally, Edwin Edwards is still alive and would be eligible to run for Governor in 2027 at the age of 100.
And you know what? He'd probably win.
He lost a House race in 2014 though I don’t if the district was more or less Republican than the state as a whole.
