He should be permanently banned from entering the country until he pays all taxes he's avoided by leading it. That's the sensible solution to this sort of problem.

Is that guy actually wearing a necktie with a flannel shirt?  And they say straight men have a bad sense of fashion!

Anyway, you may be on to something.  If his artistry is of value, in the real sense, and he cannot exploit it without entering French production studios, then his income diminishes to the point at which the returns from future roles outweigh the taxes.

Then again, it may be a philosophical matter with him and he'd sooner forego the income than pay the taxes that he considers unfair.  In that case it's the society's loss.  It's a gamble.  If the French are as spineless as every Yankee thinks they are, then they'll make the safe bet.

Does France really want to institute a 21st century version of the Berlin Wall?

Now that Depardieu is now officially Russian, the French government can simply not issue a visa on the grounds of, say, public safety, or something.

At least this makes it abundantly clear what the priorities of Western plutocrats are and how much they care about stuff like freedom and democracy (it was already clear they didn't give a damn about justice and solidarity, of course).

Russia seems a fitting destination for these morally-bankrupt f**ks.

And now Brigitte Bardot will ask for a Russian passport as well if the Lyon Zoo decides to put down a couple of sick elephants...cause you know Russia clearly is the #1 place in the world when it comes to respecting the sanctity of life for all living beings.

Yeah, Depardieu supported Mitterrand's reelection in 1988 and he openly supported the PCF in the 90s and contributed money to the PCF in 2002. Most recently, he backed the PS mayor of Lyon and a Green arrondissement mayor in Paris in 2008.

I believe, they don't really need any grounds, actually. At least, once he formally renounces his French citizenship. It wouldn't be that hard to put him on the stop list for the rest of the Schengen zone, so that he couldn't get into Germany, Belgium or, say, Norway either. He could still try getting a British visa, though.

And, imagine, suppose they even give him a visa. A one-time visa for 12 days in 6 months it will be, I am sure Smiley))

And today, Depardieu didn't attend a trial he was subject to, in France, for drunk driving... Still trolling it seems.

Yeah, we've talked about it in the French megathread. That's unforgivable if true, but it remains to be verified (from what I've heard, this affair might be tied with a longstanding local political vendetta). Sadly, Cahuzac asked UBS to certify he has no account there, and they apparently refuse. Of course, Cahuzac might have anticipated the refusal. Tongue
