Yeah, Brazil is going to be super volatile so predictions are going to be pretty tricky. It could turn out that literally none of the candidates we know and, err, love get through the next two years. Heck, I'm not even certain we can definitely predict there will be an election, if the civilian government continue to muddle as they are doing.

My main hope is that the snakes of the PMDB are destroyed, but they are roach like. I'm also going to make the prediction that Silva will yet again fail to get in the second round.

In line with OP, surely Doria is more of a Trump (right down to hosting the Apprentice!) and Bolsonaro more of a Cruz type?

How have the non-PT parties reacted to members of the military musing on mutiny?

This is a good article on Gomes:

It goes without saying though, that he'd be a better candidate than Haddad, who has no appeal to the middle class, little respect or clout in the NE (where the left need high turnout) and in general is a screw up. He completely flamed out in his last mayoral elections against a right wing cretin, for example.

On several occasions he has defended or called for the execution and torture of his political enemies (including Presidents FHC and Rousseff); he claimed that policemen who don't kill people are useless, and that they should be rewarded for every criminal they kill; he said that homosexual children should be beaten and he is a proud opponent of democracy. Very interesting to see people rightly decry Maduro while they cheer on this charlatan.

How common is ticket splitting? e.g. will Bolsanaro bring in a whole army of relatively anonymous drones from his party, or will Bolsanaro voters continue to vote PSDB/Democrats downvallot?

I'm interested in what the fate of the MDB will be in Congress. They were one of the most wounded by the corruption sandals iirc and at the moment they are very exposed, not being in any real coalition nor having a particularly popular standard bearer.

Will Amoêdo and Alckmin endorse Haddad or Bolsonaro in the second round?

Amoêdo won't endorse Haddad, that is pretty clear, he already said that he never voted for a PT candidate and never will, so if he's going to endorse someone, it will be Bolsonaro.

I think Alckmin won't endorse anyone, the PSDB and Alckmin will both be pressured a lot to not support Haddad and if they do, there's a big chance they could end up losing the gubernatorial elections in São Paulo and Minas Gerais. The PSDB will likely let their politicians choose who to support and I think most of the party is likely going to support Bolsonaro.

How about the MDB and their candidate?

Also will the MDB flop in the Chamber of Deputies given nobdoy is voting for their presidential slate?

Looks like 2014 PSDB Prez candidate Neves reportedly got enough votes to win a term as deputy lawmaker for Minas Gerais.

Wow, truly this election is a blow to the forces of corruption in Brazil!

Tiririca was re-elected. Bad news for all normal people, who rightfully oppose terrifying looking literal clowns in the public eye.

I notice the "Party for Brazilian Women" (that mostly consisted of evangelical men) just missed out.

of all the many evangelical parties, which are the strictist? Also, is anyone surprised nobody has tried making a "Catholic" party as the religion starts to lose dominance in the Protestant onslaught?

Why have the PT collapsed so much in the ABC region around Sao Paulo?
