Should we begin working on the platform soon?

Is this still gonna happen? I feel like one of the problems we had in the Fremont elections was that it wasn't quite clear where the party stood.

I'd throw out a general plank of encouraging and harnessing technological innovation (automation, automated cars, drones, etc). Pretty sure it's already in the party description and it was one of the planks I ran on.

I guess one of the first things we should decide is whether we want to have reformist planks and remain ideologically flexible for each individual candidate (progressive/conservative/moderate/etc) or take an ideological stance as well.

Thoughts?

This party seems to be quite ideologically diverse, more united by the thought of an alternative to the two-party system, so in my opinion, I think we should be flexible for each candidate. But I don't know Smiley

I'd agree. I'm probably the farthest left person in the party (that I know of) and I know we span pretty far right as well. I'd be curious to see (maybe through some kind of survey?) if there are any issues where there is near-unanimous agreement on within the party that we can champion. I feel like having a really strong set of issues that possibly even crossover from reform to ideological territory could be helpful in us carving out a brand

I know I'm probably on the right side of the party (not sure how right). I would definitely support a survey.

What kinda issues would you want to survey on? I'm guessing probably the standard set (healthcare, immigration, tax reform, etc etc etc).

I'm also doing a write-in campaign for the assembly in the December generals (as I originally intended to do in October)

Best of luck!

What is the Citizens Party planning for the midterms?

With none of our own on the ballot is it just a free-for-all?

There is a new law, signed by the President in mid-November, that requires candidates to declare 72 hours before the vote starts to be on the ballot (it used to be 24 hours).

Ah, so it looks like we're too late to get any candidates into the election

I like the idea of this... I think we've gotta market ourselves better as a party.

And I volunteer to fill in as our Itamar Franco.

What exactly would that entail?

So how do we go about establishing official planks? I’m guessing we need party leadership or something, but I can go ahead and draft up a couple

Cool. I might draft up a few tonight, also. What kind of policy will we define since we're big tent? We have social conservatives and liberals and economic conservatives and liberals, so...

I'm guessing just codifying that we stand for an alternative to the current two-party system, reform, etc, and not any specific policy planks.

That sounds like a plan. We also could open up a poll to party members only (Google Forms or something) if we want to do it that way, too.

Sounds good to me. Not sure if this was what you were referencing with the poll, but I was also thinking we could maybe propose a bunch of planks and then have people vote for or against each individual plank.

Gentlemen,

I must offer a public apology here. My thesis was up to be delivered today, and I've been forced to write at least 50 pages over the past three days. I've managed to finish writing it, but the process has left me utterly drained and exhausted, and I had to give my full, complete priority to it.

So I apologize for not being around, the party deserves better from a party chair. I commend the party members who have taken the initiative in platform and running for office, and offer my sincerest apologies most of all to them.

I'll probably be downscaling the time spent on the forum (beyond hosting a game) as I need to recharge my own batteries after the effort of the past few days, so I'll be considering whether to offer my resignation tomorrow if I truly feel I can't commit. I prefer to be on the serious side of the matter here, and not kill a rising party out of my own inactivity.

Anyway, I'll think carefully about this and issue a clear decision ASAP. Congratulations on wxtransit if he won, truly an excellent result for an excellent candidate!

I totally understand, glad to have you back Lumine!

Hello everyone,

I have decided after a bit of thinking (but not more than a hour's worth), that I will be joining the Citizens Party.

Welcome!

I think that now that the election is over, we should vote on Lumine's by-laws.

Works for me!
Official confirmation from Peebs. We have a seat!

Congrats Representative wxtransit!

I, DFL, am officially filing to run for Vice Chairman on a ticket with wxtransit. I echo the above message, and ask for your vote to make the major reforms needed to rejuvenate Citizen’s.

Citizen’s is not just a big-tent party. We are also not a mere copy of the Federalist Party. Above posing as a big-tent party, we stand for choice and reform. Firstly, we don’t support a one party state and see it as harmful to the nature of our democracy. We believe that when none of the parties provide a clear enough choice for Atlasians, the people deserve new options. We also believe in building a coalition whose foundation is rooted in progress and reform, not status quo.

With that in mind, I’m curious as to why you have chosen now as the time to attack our party. You easily could have voiced your concerns when the party founded.

Regardless, don’t try to tell us what we are.
