Well what do you want? He's clearly guilty, and had he committed his crime in the U.S., he would almost certainly be sentenced to death.

Not quite.  First off, not all states have the death penalty, and there would be the strong likelihood of him being found insane.  However, there would be no chance of his receiving a mere 21 year sentence for what he had done.
