My unpopular opinion is that coarseness in public discourse is the norm in American politics, with the mid 20th century being the exception. Coarseness comes in part from a fragmented news media which allows people to stay within an information bubble. This was the condition both before radio and since the rise of cable and then the web.

Huh, that is really interesting!  As always, if muon supports, I support!
+1 I seem to like Illinois Atlasian Republicans.

I don't like it when people decorate/prepare for, play music of, or even think about Christmas before December. Decorate you housing with a giant turkey in November, if you must.

Shall I assume then you feel the best way to see the world is on the internet alone? Tongue
I like flying places other than Cancun. It isn't that complex.

Abolish Congress and the President and replace them with a Parliament/Prime Minister system with fairly-drawn districts.
Yes!!! I would add ranked choice voting and the Wyoming rule (each CD is the population of the least populous state) to this.

- I'm mostly against direct democracy and referendums. They are frequently used by populists and the loudest demagogue often wins. And I'm especially against referendums on certain "rights". Like on gay marriage. Basic rights shouldn't be decided by a majority-minority vote.  I think referendums should only be used for controversial construction projects like railways, bridges or solar parks.
I agree with this. Representative democracy is the only acceptable form of government. However, I tend to disagree on the infrastructure referendum issue, because anti-development NIMBYs often turn out and win. Though LA did pass high speed rail and metro rail expansion this way, so I suppose that isn't always the case.

--HW got screwed over by Reagan's disastrous policies.

Agreed. Reagan was good on foreign policy but not so much on economic policy and HW suffered the consequences
Central America?
In fact, my unpopular opinion is that Reagan is a terribly overrated and a rather unintelligent person who is only revered by the modern Republican party because Dubya was horrible, HW was boring, Ford was pathetic, Nixon was evil, and Eisenhower was too far back.

Also, I support a one state solution in Israel/Palestine. Give Palestinians equal rights and try to replace religious based identity with one identity based on equal membership of the state of Israeopalestine. It's rediculous and primitive to have such tribalism. Separate but equal is never acceptable.

Globalization is nothing but a force for evil driven by the elites.
Lol.
I'll add: Globalization is an inherent force for good that must continue indefinitely, and it benefits everyone.
