Patty
January 6th, 2017

Patty Murray, who was elected Majority Leader after Harry Reid's retirement, was the first female Majority Leader in history. And with Donald Trump just being elected president by the House, it was imperative she kept control of her chamber, until January 20th, when she would have to give up the reins to Mitch McConnell.

But that was a story for later. Now, the Senate had to elect the Vice President - a tricky ordeal with a tied chamber.

Wouldn't Biden be able to break the tie in this scenario?

No, the elected VP needs 51 Senators to vote for him. The VP can't break this tie, so they keep voting until someone flips.

When the Senate is tied, the Vice President's party becomes the Majority Party, so until January 20th, Biden would give the Dems a Majority, but on January 20th, Pence becomes VP and he would give the Republicans a Majority (this exact thing happened in 2000, Tom Dashale was majority leader from January 3rd to January 20th when Cheney became VP and gave the tie breaking vote to the Republicans, and Trent Lott became Majority leader).

In case you didn't notice, there is no VP (at least, there won't be on the 20th).

Ivanka
February 20th, 2017

Inauguration Day came and went, and Ivanka's father was sworn in as President of the United States, with no Vice President to support him. Similarly, the Senate's votes for president Pro Tempore were deadlocked, leaving no "acting Vice President" either.

But despite all these difficulties, Ivanka stayed on board with her father, even taking an unofficial job alongside her husband, Jared.

In his first month as President, her father struggled with a consistent message to the public, and forming his own cabinet.

Bolded are confirmed, unbolded are nominated.

President: Donald Trump
Vice President: Vacant
Secretary of State: Rex Tillerson
Treasury Secretary: Steve Mnuchin Josh Mandel
Defense Secretary: James Mattis
Attorney General: Roy Moore Chris Christie Greg Abbott
Interior Secretary: Ryan Zinke
Agriculture Secretary: Sonny Perdue
Commerce Secretary: Carl Ichan
Labor Secretary: Andrew Puzder
Health and Human Services Secretary: Tom Price
Housing and Urban Development Secretary: Ben Carson Scott Brown
Transportation Secretary: Elaine Chao
Energy Secretary: not yet nominated
Education Secretary: Betsy DeVos
Veterans Affairs Secretary: David Shulkin
Homeland Security Secretary: John Kelly

U.N. Ambassador: Nikki Haley

White House Chief of Staff: Kellyanne Conway

Ivanka didn't know why her father picked many of his choices, considering so many of them would be rejected by the Senate, stalling his cabinet formation even longer. Feeling continually shut out of the White House, Ivanka was questioning whether to even stay on. Steve Bannon, her father's Chief Strategist, seemed to enjoy bullying her and her husband... She swore she'd do anything in her power to hurt Steve.

I should've asked this sooner, but why did Patty Murray become Democratic leader over Schumer?

Karen
May 8th, 2017

Karen was at the end of her rope. From coming in third in the gubernatorial primaries in 2010 to her lackluster time at Susan G. Komen, the special election to fill Tom Price's seat was her last shot to make a political name for herself.

It should be an easy election, considering that Price won in a landslide in 2016 and Trump did as well, by a smaller margin.

But somehow the child the Democrats chose to support is popular with these suburban wine moms.

And that was just one of the challenges - Karen also has to defeat all the other Republicans in the jungle primary. Dan Moody, Judson Hill, Bob Gray, all the others.

Hell, I ran the best damn campaign I could. There's no way I'm not in the top 2.

Yet the albatross of Trump hung on the necks of all Republicans. With a do-nothing administration, vice-president-less, with a half-filled cabinet and increasingly souring relations across the globe, Trump has made no friends and has continued to upset his base. And, of course, the questions of Russia and Trump's business dealings, all things that continued to turn reluctant Trump voters away from the President.

Karen and her team were sitting around their campaign office, awaiting the results.

Slowly but surely, the results trickled in.

CNN was ready to make a prediction - Jon Ossoff was to come in first. The early results coming in from Fulton County showed him with a majority of the vote - something that was going to evaporate, but was more that enough for him to get a plurality.

Second place - the important thing for Karen - was still underdetermined.

By 12:30 AM, the final votes had come in. Karen did come in second place. But it was all for moot:

Final Results
Jon Ossoff - 50.31%

Karen Handel - 15.33%
Bob Gray - 11.03%
Dan Moody - 8.99%
Judson Hill - 8.34%
Other Republicans - 5.45%

Other Democrats - 0.55%

Disapprove - 60%

Best wank fic in a while, though I'm sure you mean for Karen to say, "There's no way I'm not in the top 2."

Also since Ossoff won -- against a woman, no less -- how fared the other special election Dems?

Halladay
May 25th, 2017

Halladay Quist was anxiously watching CNN with her father, Rob, in their Missoula campaign headquarters. Their opponent was notorious loser and New Jerseyite Greg Gianforte.

And poor old Greg. Two campaigns in one year has wrought havoc on his mind. It's good that the election has finally come to a close. He can finally relax.

Yes, old Greg had gone off the rails during the election. And he was facing an uphill battle regardless, as Montana voted for Sanders by a margin of 2.3%, thanks to the presence of the most popular man in Montana on the ticket - Brian Schweitzer. And as Schweitzer, Governor Steve Bullock, and Senator Jon Tester all campaigned for Quist, Gianforte's chances were looking more and more grim. Halladay contributed, in her own way - by holding concert rallies - and performing at fundraisers.

But the icing on the cake had to be Gianforte's assault of reporter Ben Jacobs yesterday. Halladay was truly worried that Gianforte had gone insane - or worse. When news of the assault broke, Halladay was midway through a concert-fundraiser. She decided, on the spot, to announce that the proceeds would go to Mr. Jacobs's hospital bills, and all extra would be donated to the hospital. The campaign didn't really need the money anymore, but these concerts were helpful in getting people exc—

"Oh, oh, oh - they're about to begin reporting the results!"

(Sorry for color mixup!)

Rob Quist (D) - 203,100 - 51.3%
Greg Gianforte (R) - 158,591 - 40.0%
Mark Wicks (L) - 34,214 - 8.6%
