I would like to ask Sen. Ebowed why he thinks an increase is necessary given that the federal minimum wage is already indexed to inflation.

Because the link often does not adequately reflect the rise in wages.

Yet have things really changed so substantially since the last minimum wage was passed that inflation indexing is insufficient? I think not.

It wasn't "ftr"; your vote was essential to passing cloture.

Result on Motion for Cloture
Aye: 7 (Moderate; Ebowed; afleitch; Verily; Sensei; SoS; Earl)
Nay: 1 (Sam)
Abstain [Didn't Vote]: 2 (Brandon; Friz)

With seven in favor and one opposed, the motion for cloture carries. We are now voting on the following legislation:

I'm still not convinced that this increase is a good idea. I'm going to wait a bit on voting for this myself.

I've settled on... Nay. The current minimum wages are sufficiently high and indexed to inflation.

Tally on Final Passage
Aye: 3 (Ebowed; Sensei; Earl)
Nay: 4 (Moderate; Brandon; Sam; Verily)
Abstain: 0
Yet to Vote: 3 (afleitch; Friz; SoS)

This legislation has enough votes to pass. Senators have 24 hours to change their votes.

Thank you for the veto, Mr. President. This was a minimum wage increase, not for the benefit of the population, but for ideological reasons, that took no account of local issues in the territories nor of the fact that DC already possesses a high minimum wage indexed to inflation.

I would like to point out that I, and I think Colin as well, would be willing to support a minimum wage increase in the territories that moved much more slowly and which attempted to take into account current minimum wage laws. The broad brush with which the leftist Senators attempted to paint the increase would have only wrecked economic havoc in the territories, most of which are by no means developed or modernized locales.
