No wonder that Tim Sheehy is leading him in polls. Jon Tester goes wherever the wind blows
That’s horrible, no ifs, ands, or buts. It’s objectively not genocide, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a horrific act. And you can’t even argue that Israel was targeting such high-ranking Hamas officials that it was worth the risk or whatever. These were not top guys. This strike never should’ve been launched.
According to the Palestine Red Crescent Society, the area hit is a designated "safe zone".
This isn't the first time that Israel has hit a "safe zone" either.
Time to reconsider the "objectively not genocide" part.
That’s not genocide. A war crime? Quite possibly, but not genocide. Words have meaning.
What's the American equivalent of withdrawing the whip? Is there one? It's been well over a decade since I've bothered with Congressional procedure, so I've forgotten a lot of the little technicalities. In most countries there would be no need to ask, but Americans are so odd about anything to do with parties and groups.
It’s simply not available as congressional nominees are determined by primaries .
That's a candidate selection issue which is different. I meant expelling or suspending from the caucus, as this would definitely cross the threshold for that literally anywhere else.
The closest thing would be stripping her of her committee spots which would only be possible with Republican support to get a majority of the House. She could be barred from them next session however. There was a push to do this to Joe Lieberman after 2006 but the Senate caucus voted it down.
It's relatively easy to draw a congressional district where whites are the 4th largest racial group. I'm curious how far this can go, though. So, a challenge: Draw a relatively compact congressional district where three minority groups all have at least 28% of the population by CVAP. Can you hit 29%? 30%???
Alternative: Draw a congressional district where whites are in 4th place, and they trail the racial group that's in 3rd place by at least 18%. How large can one make this difference?
It's hard not only because so much of LA County is majority/plurality Mexican, but also because the various Asian-heavy suburbs are far from each other and tend to have a lot of White and/or Latino residents. Long Beach having a lot of super-diverse precincts doesn't help when you're trying to draw a district that's <10% White haha.
I have an Alhambra + Arcadia centered Chinese district (#11), with the (East) Asian-heavy area near the borders with Orange and San Bernardino Counties split among a Downey-Hacienda Heights district (#50), a Covina-Pomona-Chino Hills [SB] district (#48), and the alternate version of Young Kim's district that stretches down to Irvine [Orange] (#12) in my SoCal D gerrymander/“whites in 4th place district with 2020 data” map. I love how DRA has a racial dots feature now with both VAP and general population options.
Did a more "legit" version of my 2021 CA redistricting based on the above PG&D thread, but with no explicit intention to gerrymander outside of Orange County. I tried to align CD boundaries with county and municipal borders as much as possible. I also tried to center some of the Bay Area and SoCal districts around distinct Asian communities of a certain size (e.g. the ethnic Chinese of the San Gabriel Valley, NW Orange County's Little Saigon, the "PMC" and "Blue Collar" Asian cores of Santa Clara County) https://davesredistricting.org/maps#viewmap::77d4af56-7dcd-4b85-9c0c-480412498c4b
