We can project that Leinad will win the Southern gubernatorial election.

Yes, we should overthrow the government and make way for Prince Ali. Mighty is he, Ali Ababwah. Strong as ten regular men, definitely!

I think that whatever happens, the Asian vote will go in the same direction as college-educated whites.  Because it seems difficult for the GOP to win in the future without college-educated whites, I think Asians will eventually trend toward the Republicans as the party moderates.

"White working class" is too broad of a label anyway.

That's my view. People use "WWC" when they really mean non-college whites, but there are plenty of average and even high income whites without college degrees (see: Long Island).

<puts on contrarian hat>
The "traditional" foods are kind of bland.  I'd rather have a cheese burger and fries.

<puts on contrarian hat too>
I don’t like turkey and the other “standard” sides much either, so I had other food instead.

I find the county map for the 1976 presidential election in Alabama very aesthetically pleasing. a sea of rural red counties for Carter with pockets of suburban blue for Ford.

So #populist<3
that map is basically "here are the most urban counties in Alabama".

"Guilt" alone is worth nothing.

If you genuinely think that you and/or a group you are a part of has inherent advantages, then go and do something about it. But pontificating about it while doing nothing is worse than useless.

Clearly there's nothing more important (like solving actual problems) for the DOE to be doing than create the terms "freedom gas" and "molecules of US freedom".

Most people who complain about "tone policing" are just assholes who don't like other people telling them so. It's telling that the worst of both the left and right do this. Also, I've never heard anyone complain about the other side being "tone policed", only when it happens to them.

I open this thread and see Badger and OSR agree on something. Is the world coming to an end?

This thread is wild

We actually do relatively often. Just not on economics or Reagan.

And this isn’t something where you can have a debate over lol . The law is the law so if it’s been broken , it’s been broken whether majority of the country agrees or disagrees

This sounds like a great way to kill any goodwill the party has left among small businesses. Simply put, a lot of small business will simply not be able to afford such wages and will need to close as a result. I'm not opposed to minimum wage increases, but $30.00 nationwide is not realistic.

Hughes would likely have taken the US into WWI.  Unlike Wilson, he would likely have gotten the League of Nations Treaty ratified.

Part of that would have been because Hughes would not have had a debilitating stroke.  Part of that would have been because Hughes would not have killed the treaty over partisan considerations.

What many people don't seem to realize is that it was WOODROW WILSON that blocked the ratification of the treaty.  Henry Cabot Lodge (whom Wilson hated on an intensely personal level) got the GOP to attach a number of "Reservations" to the treaty.  The "Reservations" didn't amount to a Hill of Beans, but they were, as Prof. Thomas Bailey observed, a Republican wrapper to Wilson's loaf of bread.  Wilson wanted a Democratic wrapper, and he instructed Senate Democrats to vote against the Treaty.  When it was killed, Lodge refused to bring it up again.

Charles Evans Hughes would have not let such considerations get in the way of ratification of the treaty.  He would have made his peace with the isolationists in his own party.  Indeed, this accomplishment would have mitigated the harsh peace terms imposed on Germany which led to the sort of resentment that led to the rise of the Nazis and Hitler.  And Wilson's stubbornness was exacerbated by his stroke.  Hughes would not have had that problem, either.

Hughes would have been elected by the solid margins Republican Presidents were re-elected back then.
