I think there are two issues here:

1) Donald Trump Jr. has repeatedly changed his story on meeting Russians. Everytime it looked "worse" for him. Why should his current version of events regarded as truthful?

2) By his own admission, Donald Trump Jr. met with the Russian lawyer because she claimed to have damaging information on Hillary Clinton. Which raises the question where exactly he would have drawn the line? Would he have been also willing to meet the Russian lawyer had she promised to hack the election in his father's favour? Would he have been willing to meet with members of the Russian Embassy had they claimed to have damaging information on the Democrats?

Democrats say they want to "follow the facts wherever they lead". That's complete BS. They already came up with the conclusion that Trump is a traitor and they have been trying to make the facts fit their narrative.

The news about Jr.'s meeting with the Russians to collude on digging up dirt on Clinton came from White House sources, not the Democrats.

I'm not saying there's no smoke. I'm just saying that Democrats already convicted Trump of treason in their minds long ago, and no matter where things end up, they will always consider Trump to be a traitor who got away.

Deriving your own position from a assumption what you think "the Democrats" think seems like an awfully convoluted way of reasoning.
