What is it with this trend of not writing the concession speech until after the networks project your loss? First Romney did it, and now Hillary. Honestly doesn't make sense to me. If you've lost, you've lost, and it's best to just get out there quickly, make your remarks, and move on to the next chapter of your life.
Right? It's the easiest speech in the world to make:
- Congratulate the winner
- "The voters have made their decision" and "We will get behind the next President and unite the country"
- Thank supporters/volunteers/workers/family
- A 2-3 minute summary of what the campaign stood for
- And what the campaign "accomplished" and how you wish you succeeded
- "Thank you and God bless America!"
If only the electoral college didn't override the decision made by a plurality of American voters...
Just want to flag that Clinton's staff did write a concession speech (source: read Clinton's book). The point Clinton is making might be that she didn't personally work on it or was not emotionally prepared to lose. In her book, Clinton says that she didn't like the first draft of the concession speech and they worked on it overnight, etc.
