Apparantly gay marriage is very popular among indys and moderates. The US seems to have hit a tipping point. Look for Obama to support recognizing gay marriage during his second term Tongue

Again, what people say and what they'd vote for themselves are very different things.

The difference isn't necessarily what they'd vote for as much as it is how motivated they are to vote. Gay marriage supporters who aren't gay themselves don't have nearly the motivation to go to the polls just on that issue as anti-marriage supporters do. Religious fundamentalists vote in high numbers.

As do old people.   Young 18 year olds don't.

That joke would work better if you weren't living in a state where you already can.

Pass the Ryan Budget: kill off the conservatives now so the liberals can win later.

It's probably gotten to a point where it's 45-45 in a lot of states, but there's a 10% that is easily moved by phony and ridiculous ads about how all kids will be forced to get gay married and church goers will be forced to attend the weddings at gun point.

Yeah. Let's put it to a referendum and see what happens.

Wait for some of the boomers to die off and it will be a non-issue eventually. Today's young politicians may want to be careful about anti-gay rhetoric that will come back to haunt them decades from now; when the country finally realizes gays aren't going anywhere and they become fully mainstreamed.

Don't think it'll mean much until a majority of likely voters representing a majority of states agree.

Actually, you'd be killing off more liberals than conservatives. More often than not, it's the liberals who are leeching off of government programs and entitlements. Wink

Well if he's going to do it, the second term would be the time to do it.

We all have a nice long Obama 2nd term wish list.  It would be interesting to see how Obama acts for the first four years of his life without having to play campaigner.

Bush kind of gave up in 2005 after immigration reform failed.  That was disappointing.  I hope O is a little bit, uh, stronger.

This is up there with Republicans telling their voters not to vote so that Roe v. Wade would never get overruled and that Democrats would theoretically abort themselves.

Maybe all the Democrats shouldn't vote so that Republicans will medically neglect, starve or blow themselves up.

Notice that Republicans aren't changing their positions.  If this trend continues, it could be problematic for future GOP candidates.
