Seriously? I proposed a very moderate amendment, the one that only taxes the harmful activities by the rich. It's really unfair for Atlasians to lose services when the rich are getting a tax cut.

You're characterizing financial transactions as "harmful activities"?
Speculation is  a harmful activity.

So your solution is to drive the little guy out of the stock market?
It's a % tax not a flat tax... The idea is to curb Wall Street.
It's still another tax on top of the fees already charged by private services. Also, trying to "curb" the stock exchange probably isn't the best solution to economic growth.

At that low rate I don't expect there to be a big reduction in activity. I favor this because it hits the idle rich who only pay capital gains taxes and not income taxes which in America is much lower than the income tax rate.

Looks like we don't have a capital gains tax or an estate tax. I would be willing to lower income tax rates further and enact these new taxes.

Sorry - we do have an estate tax but I somehow forgot to include it.  With the Estate Tax Reform Act and the Public Housing Act, there should be added $8.5 billion for Public Housing Act spending and $47.9 billion for estate tax revenue.

As for capital gains taxes, they are included in the income tax figures, but with a deduction for the lower rate which I've been assuming is at the same rate as RL.

Captial gains taxes are unjust and should be opposed by conservatives. The tax system should be changed as soon as this debt is eliminated and it should be replaced with a tax on consumption. Also the inheritance/estate tax should be eliminated immediately.

Tell me, why is it unjust to take money from those who haven't earned it rather than those who have? Investments is pretty much luck, and inheritance was earned by your rich daddy. You didn't do anything, the market/your parents did.

First of all I'm not from a wealthy family. Second I'd like you to look at the following passages in The Bible:

On Income Taxation and Captial Gains

Exodus 30:11-15
Leviticus 27:30,32
Matthew 20:1-16, 25:14-30
Luke 19:12-27

On Inheritence and Estate Taxes

Proverbs 13:22, 19:14
1 Chronicles 28:8
Ezra 9:12

That is why the Founders were more supportive of what are known as consumption or sales taxes

I wasn't saying anything about you personally, Mr. Libertas. I was simply using 'you' as a stand-in for longer, more unwieldy descriptions ("This hypothetical rich guy; let's call him Mitt").

And I don't see why we should be using the Bible as a source of legislation.

In cases like this, we should let the post self-ridicule, and abstain from further posts to let the hilarity sink in.

I think an updated current text is in order before proceeding. Sadly, I may not have a chance to get to that tonight, so if someone else loves pain and wants to do it before tomorrow, go right ahead. Tongue

This is the Senate, a functioning body, not some stupid Forum Community or 2012 Board post. Engaging in playground bullsh**t such as that will hamper debate on a bill that has already suffered from enough delay. Just ignore the stupidity and keep going as if it didn't happen.

...you can ask many of us our preferences about taxes, and I think we'd be much more in favor of income taxes than sales taxes.

For god sakes don't show me another amendment right now. Get the current text finished.

Since most of the crap I just had to add was Ben's and Ben has just showed me another amendment at a time when I am not in the mood to see such with regards to this bill, Ben has just volunteered to finish the current text as presently constituted. You have 24 hours. Tongue The scrolling issue and the slow navigation between pages is making it pure murder for me to continue.

I will also require that all subsequent amendments alter the entire text, since changes at the top impact the totals at the bottom. All future amendments after Seatown's two yet unconsidered amendments shall be required to be in the above stated format and failure to comply will result in my sh**t canning them under Article 4, Section 2, Clause 1 of the OSPR.
