THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK

Every time I watch this film I remember what I love about it: a tight script, strong performances, and a story that not only builds off the original but improves upon it. It's my favorite film of the trilogy and my favorite of the whole saga by far. There's a reason why this film is the blueprint for all directors when they begin production on a sequel. Definitely my favorite sequel of all time...although that has potential to change soon Wink

It is a bit sad to think that this film was the peak of the series, which could have gone to many interesting places but instead just went down hill and then belly up. I do think there's something to be said about the fact that the film that George Lucas had the least amount of control over is the best one in the series.

I saw Hancock the other night. At first it looked like a movie about a homeless black man with special powers, but it turned into something I still don't understand.

Hellboy 2.

It's worth it just for the action sequences and cool creatures, but some of the cheesiness went over the top. Also the last scene and cut to credits was a total groaner (though no doubt that's exactly the type of reaction del Toro was aiming for.)

Charlie Wilson's War (2007)

Saw Charlie Wilson's War for the second time last night, such a great film. It goes hand in hand with a great cast and a great script, produced by the master of political drama Aaron Sorkin. If Philip Seymour Hoffman wasn't up against Javier Bardem of No Country for Old Men for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar he probably would have won it, or so I think. He was great.

Finding Forrester with Sean Connery.  Hey it was free on On Demand.  But I liked it.

Hellboy II

Didn't really understand or care about the plot, but it was amusing and had a couple of cool action sequences.

Wall-E

Did you see the trailer for Babylon AD? That one actually REALLY pissed me off that it was PG-13 since it looked like it would be awesome if it was R. I read it had to be cut to get a PG-13 so I'll probably just wait for the "unrated" DVD which would be the real version.

Yeah, but I didn't pay much attention to it. I was too busy thinking how many trailers they'd show us with Michelle Yeoh.

The Last Boy Scout.

A whole lot of fun. Why don't they make movies like that so much anymore?

Muppet Treasure Island

Probably the greatest single movie ever produced.

Sleepwalking.

The reviews were bad, but I was curious for some reason. I actually did enjoy it. The pace was criticized but that seemed to be the style of the film to me, it's an indie after all. Of course the trailer was terrible, it was like a Lifetime original movie, so maybe that changed expectations. Nick Stahl and Charlize Theron did a great job, as did the girl playing the daughter.

Hellboy 2: The Golden Army

I thought it was pretty good, though if you don't like fantasy movies you probably won't like it.
