Swingometer is out. Exit poll suggests a 5.5% Lab to Con swing. Swing to Conservatives in England is 7%.

7.0% swing to the Tories in England
1% swing to Labour in Scotland and Wales

And 2% swing from the LD's to the Tories. Somehow I don't quite believe this exit poll entirely.

It's a statistical gremlin.

Vine says there may have been a swing towards Labour in Scotland and Wales.

This might end up in court. Birmingham's locking the doors and letting those who have arrived vote.

An 8.4% swing would give the Tories an overall majority if it was repeated nationwide.

I think the key thing from Sunderland South is that the Tories only went up 5.2%.

Remember that the exit poll doesn't cover postal votes.

I find the BBC drone hectoring some poor Labor spokesperson saying Brown should just drown himself since he was rejected, a bit annoying.

That's Jeremy Paxman. It's his job to be annoying.

do they do that Olympic medal style coronation ceremony for every riding/constituency? that's the weirdest thing I've ever seen

Yes, they do, but they don't necessarily show it on TV. It's even been spoofed in Monty Python. They used to not announce the party and the announcer would say it in the gaps.

Another exit poll:

Conservatives - 305
Labour - 255
Liberal Democrats - 61
Other - 29

Substitute "Another" for "Slightly revised version of the same skeptical exit poll released the first time" please.

Sorry - I thought it was a different one.  Why did they "revise" an exit poll?Huh

It's no longer an exit poll- it's a projection.

It's a tradition for Vine and his predecessor Peter Snow to work some form of gimmicky illustration into their coverage.

11.6% Lab-Con swing...

Many Labour votes are going to the BNP and UKIP though...
