*9- Crist assassinated while campaigning for gubernatorial candidate Lugar in Gary IN
*10 senator Jim DeMint forms a new party, the "Tea Party" because he thinks the CP isn't conservative enough. He finishes a distant 3rd in the election, but carries 22% of the vote, so mr. Perriello is able to win by a landslide, only losing Maine (CP), Alaska (CP), Utah (CP), Idaho (CP), AL (TP), SC (TP) and Louisiana (TP).
