It is Ash Wednesday is it not?

Oh and in answer to Dan's question, no.

It's orgy night. I told Bertha, the 92 year old who sits in the front row, she has first dibbs.

No seriously, it's Ash Wednesday.

It's ash wednesday.  It's Chinese Lunar New Year.  And tomorrow is the first of Muharram.  Something for everybody!  (at least for catholics, muslims, confucianists, buddhists, and taoists)

No.  But I will have a nice roasted pork-butt, some Tofu & fish with cilantro and hot peanut sauce, hot salty corn, vegetable buns, and steamed rice with my wife.  Nothing like celebrating with a good old-fashioned home-cooked meal, IMHO.  (though in past years the parades in San Francisco with firecrackers and dragon floats were fun too.)

What exactly is Ash Wednesday, anyway?  All I know is that Catholics end up with dirty foreheads.

The only religious holidays I celebrate are Good Friday and Ascension Day, the two most important ones.

Ash Wednesday is celebrated by Protestants as well as Catholics. I'll be participating in the service at my church this evening. The attendees will be from both UCC and Methodist churches, and the service will be in the style of Taize.

no offense, but smearing ash on foreheads seems rather silly and primitive.

See now for some reason I thought the same thing about Jane Swift...

Apparently you have some issues ...

The service we did was well received. That included many who hadn't seen that style before.

Surely, Easter Sunday and the resurrection is the most important day!!! Without resurrection, Good Friday was pointless and without resurrection....Ascension day could not happen :-). Christianity is based on the resurrection.....

Attended services at the local Newman Center last night, received my ashes. Giving up gambling (not easy for me to do) for Lent.

I really enjoy Ash Wednesday services -- I don't mind the solemn mood attached with it. I also got to read an excerpt from the book of the prophet Joel  because so few people showed up, heh.
