Why does Ireland have such very anti-abortion laws?

Catholic tradition. Ireland was super socially conservative until very recently. They had a constitutional ban on divorce until 1995, and that was only removed after a referendum won by only 8000 votes because of Dublin going heavily for repeal.

With two and a half hours left of voting, turnout is hitting 55% in parts of Dublin.

What is turnout in the rest of the country though?

Roscommon, the only area to vote No in the 2015 marriage referendum, is reporting a rather low turnout of 40.2%

Yeah, repeal should win. Very high turnout in Dublin (which always votes very socially liberal in these referendums) and really bad turnout in the most socially conservative part of the country basically guarantees a win for repeal.

We don’t need an RSS feed; Twitter does exist

I don't mind it tbh.

So say the exit polls (that overstated Yes by more than the Margin of Error). It may even be true, but what a hyperbolic interpretation.

http://www.pewforum.org/fact-sheet/public-opinion-on-abortion/

Women are pro-choice by a margin of 21%, while men only by 13%.

More men disapprove of abortion because they want to punish women for having sex.

So you're saying the clear majority of men support abortion?
