Hasn't it something to do with the fact that for the past legislative terms or so a couple of Democratic representatives had caucused with the Republicans and vice versa in the Alaska Sate House? For instance, during the last term the Democratic caucus consisted of 17 Democrats, 3 Republicans, and 2 Independents. Party lines generally seem to be much more fluid in Alaska than in other states.
