No sense in letting a perfectly good board go to waste, especially with so much potential here.

So here's how we'll do it. I'll serve as the organizer/speaker of parliament for now, posting official threads and such. I think the best idea is to keep this simple and build up from there. Unfortunately, that means tossing out most of the great stuff Colin wrote up about the island. Let's keep the general premise, though: we're the parliament of an island named Antillia in the middle of the north Atlantic Ocean, population of a half million and a land area the size of New Caledonia.

I like Xahar's idea of predefined parties, so let's go with that for now, but people can make new parties or be an independent if they really don't like the existing party choices. I think the Parliament's framework should be fairly simple. Parties vote on their own leadership, and a Prime Minister or Speaker or whatever elected by the assembly as a whole. There will be a thread to submit bills (maybe some limitations for submissions per person and/or party), and bills get their own threads and there will be a debate time, amendments can be offered, and then a final vote. I'll write up some guidelines later.

To prevent things from being bogged down into legalese, and to keep this accessible to everyone, bills can simply be a statement of intentions "The death penalty shall be abolished for all crimes" or "make the income tax more steeply progressive", for example. We can get more detailed as we move forward, as necessary.

I'll write the basic existing laws that the country has right now and put them in another thread and also put a new registration thread up. Anyone on board? Any other suggestions before I get things started?
